Grotto or Fairmont? All-Inclusive of Not?

Family of three, including a 10 year old looking to travel to Bermuda. What is recommended in terms of hotels? Should we be considering an all inclusive? If so, what does that include? How expensive is food and drinks and are there activities to entertain kids? Is it true you can't rent a car? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Most visitors to Bermuda find both food and drink *** EXPENSIVE.*** Take a look at some of the sample menu prices at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel to give yourself some idea of hoe "..expensive.." id defined--

www.fairmont.com/southampton-bermuda/dining/ --and judge for yourself. There are modest and moderately priced dining option located throughout Bermuda...but not many that are '..convenient..' to either the Fairmont Southampton Hotel or Grotto Bay Beach Resort.

The ONLY hotel in Bermuda that offers an '..all-inclusive..' rate plan (room, full breakfast, lunch, afternoon Tea, all beverages including beer, wine & liquor, NON-motorized watersports equipment & public Transportation Pass is the Grotto Bay Beach Resort-- https://www.grottobay.com/ --at #114.00 per night/per person. In the past, GBBR had offered '..Children Under-12 Stay Free/Eat Free..' but I'm not sure that offer is still valid. This '..all-inclusive..' rate plan option is in addition to a more conventional MAP (Modified American Plan) which includes room, full breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner ONLY.

The Fairmont Southampton offers a separate MAP rate...but you'd have to check with the FSH DIRECTLY for that rate.

BUT...several hotels in Bermuda offer the more conventional.

>>>...Is it true you can't rent a car?...<<<

This is MOSTLY true....there are NO conventional car rentals allowed in Bermuda...BUT...recently a vendor has been renting tiny, 2-passenger, Renault TWINGO electric cars-- https://www.currentvehicles.com/ --but these are only available in downtown Hamilton, at the Hamilton Princess Hotel, where there are re-charging stations-- https://www.currentvehicles.com/ ....and since they will only carry two(2) passengers, they won't do a "..Family of three.." much good.

BUT...Bermuda has a genuinely excellent public transportation system--buses and ferries--that will take you to--or near to--just about anywhere you might want to go during your visit.

I recommend that you click on the website of Grotto Bay that KDKSAIL provided. You will be able to download a two page brochure of the all-inclusive plan.

P.S.....A recent post by '..Doug K..' noted that the Fairmont Southampton had begun offering a 50% Off Sale. See the provided link for the offer--

Thank you so much for your detailed response. Wondering if there are fees to the use of the tennis courts and any kids programs at either hotel. Also, what is the average cost to use public transportation or taxi to get around?

YES....(unless you sign on for the '..a-i..' rate plan at GBBR)

Taxis tend to be EXPENSIVE in Bermuda. BUT, Bermuda has an excellent public transportation system--buses & ferries--that will take you to, or near to, just about anywhere you might want to go during your visit. Just about every minute, of every mile, of every public bus or ferry route is a '..GREAT RIDE..'. Both the Grotto Bay Beach Resort and the Fairmont Southampton Hotel are well served by this system. So getting out 'n about tiny Bermuda via public buses and ferries is relatively easy, convenient, economic (especially with a public Transportation Pass) and FUN.

With profound apologies to sardines everywhere...I mis-identified the electric '..TWIZZY..'--

KDKSAIL Love the detailed map! What is a must see in Bermuda, aside from the crystal caves near Grotto Hotel? Towns? Restaurant recommendations? Fun Activities?

Been to Grotto Bay about six times in the last 15 years. HIGHLY recommend it and recommend the all inclusive. Food is expensive in Bermuda and the all inclusive I feel pays for itself (we also like the red wine!) Several times we have taken one or more of our grandchildren with us and a great time was had by all! Accommodations were clean and staff attentive. Great place! All inclusive includes a week bus pass!
