Where to stay on drive from Las Vegas

We will be leaving Las Vegas around 4 pm on a Monday in October, assuming no flight delays. Driving to the Grand Canyon to spend the entire day and night there on Tuesday. Where would you recommend staying on Monday night? Would like to get as close to GCNP as possible on Monday, but I understand that driving at night close to the park may not be a good idea. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Look at Kingman or Williams. Williams just over an hour away from the park, but that's the hour you do NOT want to be driving in darkness.

When you arrive in Las Vegas, it will get dark around 6 in October. You will be driving south and will be able to see Hoover Dam. About an hour further drive will be Laughlin.

You could explore both of these before driving on to Kingman. The drive early evening is driven by many even in the twilight/first few hours of the evening.

I would probably not drive as far as Williams.

The thing about driving all the way to Grand Canyon Park is how "dark" it can be out. The other thing is the huge moose that can dart out on the road - its hard to see them until you are "right beside them" in the dark.

Do check the weather forecasts. If clear and sunny, great. If its cloudy and possibly rainy, the views of the Grand Canyon can get obscured by clouds and fog. Try to take advantage of the best viewing hours.

This may mean getting an early start out of Kingman. Its too early to telll you for sure, but keep watch on the hourly weather forecast to determine best viewing hours..

No moose. Lots of elk though. And plenty of other critters that can spoil your entire vacation in 2 seconds.
