Bangkok - Chiang Mai train derailed...again

The third time in a month. It seemed to be due to poor maintenance.

It's a shame, really. I've always wanted to travel by train to Chiang Mai.

My goodness 900 accidents in 6 years and 297 deaths even though that's including car drivers and trucks it's still incredibly high.

Awful!! We were planning on getting an overnight train as its cheaper than flying. How else can we get there? Is there a bus?

Thanks

Try the site below for bus tickets. You can choose from either public or private bus companies.

The Transport Co. Ltd. is the state-owned bus company.

Not sure that bus statistics are any better. I would stick with the train, although for a few $s extra flying is quicker, more comfortable, safer, on time, you arrive refreshed.....
