We are staying in Carcassonne for a few days this coming weekend and fancy a day trip to Lagrasse. Is this possible on public transport?
I have checked the départment bus website. There is also one bus per day between Lagrasse and Lezignan-Corbières but as that is also basically a school bus it is of no use to any visitor.
Sorry, the trip simply cannot be done without a car.
Thank you for the information, will have to think of something else if this is not viable.
If you look at the next two links you'll see a map of the train networks around Carcassonne so you can see where you can get to by train:
You could take a train to Lézignan and then a taxi to Lagrasse (a 20km journey) and then do the same in reverse but I don't know how much a taxi would cost.
Here's a link to the local bus website so you can see where buses go but you'll probably find it difficult to use as it's in French and if you know nothing about the area you won't know what places might be worth visiting.
You might find ideas on the Carcassonne tourist office website:
Or on the départementale website for the Aude:
You can visit the Carcassonne tourist office in person and they can probably help you plan a day out of town by public transport and may also have guided tours to nearby places that you can join.
You can google info about tours in the area, such as these:
Info about Cathar castles:
When we take a taxi home from the station it costs around € 40 - it is less than 20 km.
