We are staying in Nidri in June, and were wondering if Vathy on Meganisi is worth a visit? Can anyone tell us how much the return trip on the fast ferry would cost. Many thanks.
The only trouble is unless you get the 7:00am one you can't return from the same port. The lunchtime one drops you off in Vathi and then you have to get to Spilia to get the last ferry backEdited: 16 January 2018, 06:17
It's hard to be exact about ferry times, because the timetable tends to vary throughout the year, but Delboy is absolutely right, you have to be aware that it calls at two ports on Meganisi and you can't always get back from the same one. There is a minibus linking the ports, or if you are walkers, you can walk between them, but do check the times before you decide. Note that the timetable currently on the website is for 2017!
Journey time is 20-30 minutes between each pair of ports. And yes, Meganisi is well worth a visit!
I did not experience the trip so can't really comment but our rep did say that the minibus arrives and can only take a number of people and local people are pretty well on first. As such a number of people just go for the ride as stay on the ferry to come back.
It did put me off doing the trip as my wife can not walk great distances
To add to what Delboy says if you go across to Vathy on the 12.00 ferry there is a connecting minibus which takes to to Spliea to get the ferry back. There would be no problems with potential overcrowding.Edited: 17 January 2018, 01:21
You could depending on your interests(and ferry timetables) get the 7.30 ferry, walk from Vathy up into Katomeri for a look around and then back down to Vathy for an early lunch getting the lunch time ferry back to Nidri,
Or walk between all three villages and get the ferry back from Spillia.
It's a lovely place to visit and gives a different perspective in each village.
The minibus I can't help with because we have never managed to be in the right place/time to catch it ! Planning to in May though !
The ferry in the above llink is up and running Sunsy !
You don't need to book - just pay on board - 1.9 euros per adult.
