Hiking table mountain

I would love to hike the table mountain and take the cable car on the way down. However, I am concerned about the high level of violent crimes. Is there a safe route at all. We are family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens).

"SANParks regional spokesperson Saskia Marlowe said the Table Mountain National Park had a Visitor Safety Team whose role was to keep crime to a minimum in the park.

“This team is supported by a dog unit consisting of 12 security-trained canines."

Does anyone see these dog teams regularly on the mountain on hiking trails?

Due to the lack of response, I'll take that as a no that nobody is regularly seeing the Canine units patrolling the trails then. That's obviously too bad and part of the problem.

Table Mountain is vast - a huge area for rangers to cover plus this is a travel forum not a hiking forum so I’m not surprised you’ve not had any responses.

To the original poster, most common route up is Platteklip Gorge. On the weekends & public holidays this is a very busy route so would be safe to do. Suggest that the hike is started in the morning & take plenty of water with.

" this is a travel forum not a hiking forum so I’m not surprised you’ve not had any responses."

There are thousands of posts and replies about hiking on this forum, as well as about beer, shopping, swimming, sunglasses etc... they all fall under travelling ... you even follow up your statement about you won't get any response about hiking issues with your information about hiking...bizzarre. I thought this wasn't a hiking forum but a travel forum?
