Gate1 Travel

Before very cautious about booking any Italy tour with Gate1 travel. Once your trip is paid for, at the last minute they will change the hotels you are paying for and the hotels you will be staying at will be downgraded in comparing them to the advertised hotels in the brochure. When you contact them they state that it is their policy to do that. What they don't get is that:

It is a deplorable way of doing business

Extremely bad customer service

I am sure there are more reputable tour operators that will not do a bait and switch on their customers for the same price. After all it is all about the customer experience

When you work with a company that doesn't own the travel product that they are selling you then you have to expect that this can happen.

If you want to avoid this in future then, since you are in the US, you can book through a competent travel agent who knows which companies deliver the type of holiday that you expect.

Find a local agency and a good agent in that agency for your best travel experiences in the future. BTW, sometimes companies (especially cruise lines) will post the names of agents familiar with their products (and probably have taken a course and maybe more) on their websites making it easy for you to find the experts. Otherwise you need to invest a bit of time asking around sort of what you would do if you were looking for a good doctor or hairdresser. Some good agents are at AAA too.

Good luck.
