I'm assuming you mean from Manchester, UK.

I've done both and to me in EC there isn't really much difference

I would base your decision on who has the best fare and flight times.

AA is in bankruptcy now. That doesn't effect flights though as it is a financial management thing. Rumours are out today that both Delta and USAir are looking to buy them.

In any event, I'd take Continental but you won't be poorly by either choice.Pick the one that has the best price/schedule/seat dimensions.

I've travelled with both AA and Continental from Manchester to NY and there isn't in my opinion any significant difference between them in terms of seats and facilities in economy class.

I would base the decision on which offers the best price/schedule bearing in mind that schedules can , and do, change between booking and travel.

Geomedic

I understand that. My point to Angrylips is that because they've filed for bankruptcy doesn't mean they're going bankrupt.

If the fare/schedule isn't your deciding factor, look at the other airlines with whom AA and Continental (really United Continental) are in alliances. For example, AA is a oneworld member, along with British Airways. If you travel/plan to travel often, consider booking with airline in an alliance where you can use any frequent flier miles/points you earn more readily.

I also agree that the schedule might not be the best way of deciding since airlines do change these.
