Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is very nice and the garden is beautiful. Staff are very pleasant It was very busy when we were there. The chocolate shop is small but with a good variety of chocolates although not much free testing of chocolates

Very disappointed this visit… have had many visits to this cafe and each time we are less and less impressed. The variety of the food and the size of the servings are decreasing every visit. Today the service was terrible, things missed from our order,...and the wrong drinks brought to the table. Waitress’s knowledge of the menu was less than impressive.More

Aztec Chilli & hot spice is a delightful winter warmer when I'm anywhere near Latrobe. Chilli heat not as dialled up today as it sometimes is, but delicious nonetheless. My personal preference is to enjoy it inside the cafe before the fire - so that...you can warm your hands around a ceramic cup.More

I have enjoyed my previous visits but it was disappointing to see the menu had been shortened up considerably. The staff seemed clueless, and the Winter Veg Curry was ordinary to say the least, full of potatoes and cauliflower served with rice and Naan bread....The dirt on the glass wear was also displeasing. As a local I won’t be hurrying back.More

I've been here several times, and always make the trip when I'm in Tassie. The chocolate shop is fantastic - the best chocolates I've found in Australia for sure, and while their truffles are just meh, the chocolate bars compare favourably with actual Belgian chocolate!...The cafe is also amazing - the waffles are fluffy and delicious! I recommend the caramel-banana waffles. The hot cocoa is always worth it, especially on a cold day. Do make a reservation if you're coming in the peak season!More

Had a long and overly ambitious meal here. It was perfect! Not until after the food arrived did I realise I had over ordered – a savoury and a desert. Could’ve had just one of these . . . but I struggled on and managed...to get them all down. Very piggy I know, but the food here is excellent. I especially enjoyed the waffles. The free chocolate samples in the chocolate factory are a bonus on the way out too. This place showcases some of the best things about Tassie – unusual food, being able to look into the factory, great setting, relaxing gardens, good coffee and helpful staff. We were in Tassie for three weeks, and visited Anvers three times while there. Great fun. Thanks, CateMore

The real star here is the 'chocolate factory' - their chocolate is belgian-style, but using a particular variety of cocoa bean that is even smoother than normal chocolate. Highly recommend taking home several bars of their dark chocolate, though their chocolate truffles are only 'good'...rather than 'great'. The cafe is excellent; I've eaten there several times and always had a fabulous meal (though I've only tried their waffles, can't speak to the sandwiches). As the waffles are also Belgian-style, and are very good, I would definitely recommend that. Their hot chocolate is also the best hot chocolate I've ever had - on 3 continents! If you're eating on a weekend, get a reservation, especially during the busy season! If you're taking the ferry to Tassie, this is a great place to stop. But even if you're flying in, this place is worth making a detour! I only wish they delivered their chocolates outside of Australia - the 20-hour flight is a bit too much for this to be a 'regular spot' for me!More

Like most cafes in Tasmania that cooking is archaic and barbaric. Its a pretty setting but that does not excuse the fact that animals are abused and slain in order to make their appealing meals. I follow the Vegan diet and will not support the...mass slaughter and over extraction of animal products. A restaurant that lacks the capability to cook and create dishes out side of the box of tradition in my opinion, in my opinion is tantamount to the stone age and a paid colosseum. So I order the Vegetable thing, there was only one so called Vegetarian option, a toasty or something I could of made at home. I asked them to replace the cheese with garden chutney. They offered to toast it for me, kind, not that it meant much, the dish came out dead cold and surprise surprise, IT HAD CHEESE in it! I could not be pucked making a scene so I didn't say anything. This happens in pretty much any rhetoric restaurant/ cafe in Tasmania so I hope this review doesn't make them feel to left out. Wont bother going back.More

Stopped at Anvers for breakfast and a possible factory tour. I ordered the free range egg omelette, with bacon, cheese, capsicum and onion, served with toasted pipe loaf, plus a cappuccino. Choosing just a small lunch I opted for a toasted sandwich, turkey & cheese and asked for it to be toasted. After waiting over half an hour when arrived it was very small, there was hardly any Turkey in it. Mostly just bread, I asked...for toasted which it wasn't so it went back to the kitchen, so another wait. The little salad had no dressing, the green leaves were old and yellow, the cherry tomato wasn't even ripe.More

Called in on the public holiday for lunch. Honestly have never had such an unappetising, unappealing meal in my life. Waited ages, finally the first meals came out. We had ordered three steak sandwiches, with wedges and I have never seen such a gristly, grey...unappetising piece of meat. Three anaemic looking potatoes pieces and a sauce that was supposed to be mushroom but was cold and gross. There was no care or finesse to these meals just slapped on a Turkish bread. They were small and I would of been embarassed to served them at home let alone in a restaurant. The meals came before the cutlery, had to hunt some down so we could eat. My daughters chicken curry was warm on the top but cold underneath. We waited the longest for a cheese plate and my 9 year olds waffles. Everyone else had finished their meals by the time the waffles and three measly pieces of cheese came out. These meals honestly looked like something you’d make out of the dregs of your pantry at the end of your shopping week to use up whatever’s left over before cleaning out the fridge. So disappointing because we had been here many times before and talked the place up but this was an embarrassing and expensive experience. Definitely ruined our desire to go back to what was once a family favouriteMore

Today - as always - this fabulous place was spotlessly clean, the service was genuinely friendly and the food was faultless. Everything you order is perfect - good size servings, fresh, tasty, well cooked and presented. And the coffee ☕ is perfect.
