Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Funky Pies has no equal. This may sound over the top but when we think of coming to Australia we think of funky pies. We eat at some five star restaurants when in Australia but does anything really compare to funky pies.

Oh Man! Funky Pies is the best!! I was in Bondi for 3 days and I had two pies everyday. Every pie was so delicious and you can tell they’re handmade. Being vegan I wondered if I would find a good pie during my time in Aus and boy did Funky Pies provide me with that! I wish they were everywhere. If you’re in Bondi and want a good pie, whether you’re vegan or not, go to Funky Pies!!!!!

Even if you are not vegan I still recommend coming here. The employees are so nice and there is a wide, yummy selection of pies. It’s good to come here for either breakfast or lunch, but it’s better to go before they mostly sell out. Recommend!

Small restaurant with a large selection of delicious vegan pies and an offer of vegan food.
Everything was very tasty (except the chai latte - which tasted like hot water with cinnamon).

This place is amazing. As a vegan - who EVER has a real pie? Let alone so many varieties that it’s hard to choose!
I went for Funky Chunky. Omg. It was full on delicious. There was no gloop, just full on flavoured gravy with ridiculously yummy flaky chunks of shiitake mushroom as the hero. The tiny hint of mash - was a delight. And just the right amount. And the flaky pastry! Super clever.
I also grabbed a chocolate caramel slice. Once again. Perfection.
I’ll be back! Yum!

The three of us, had three different pies i.e. the g’day satay, the funky chunky, and another. All tasted different and nice. The pricing and service were good. A small place with some outdoor seating.

All vegan so I had to look carefully to avoid the imitation meat but I got a chickpea curry pie that was. Not the richest curry but well packed into the flaky case - it was even flaky on the bottom yet held together well for eating on the run.

After working up an appetite on the Bondi to Bronte walk (and back), we sought out Funky Pies. Although only one of my daughters is vegan, that did not matter because everything served at this cafe was delicious, filling, and, yes, funky! Located along a strip with other cafes and pubs, it might be easy to miss---don't pass it up! The staff was friendly, prices were decent, and the outdoor seating was perfect on a cool evening. Make a point to stop by for a wonderful treat!

Really enjoyed the vegan pies! The taste and texture of the "meat" was similar to non vegan pies which even my non vegan friend very much enjoyed.

I eat at Funky Pies at least once a month. For $12 you can get yourself a pie, mash, peas and tasty gravy which is one of the best value meals in Bondi, and definitely challenges the stereotype of vegan food costing a bomb. I've enjoyed everything I've eaten in this place, and the Funky Chunky is the best. My non-vegan friends love going to Funky Pies for dinner as much as I do. I suggest grabbing a couple of frozen pies while you're there - you'll want them later. They also stock some other vegan groceries. I would love if Funky started to use Deliveroo or Uber Eats so I could eat even more of them :)

Someone in my hostel recommended this to me as they heard I was vegan. We tried for 2 days to get there but kept getting back from our activities too late. Third time lucky we managed to grab a feed.
We had the Nepalese and the cheezy chick’n and shared. My friend is a non-vegan and the both of us were so impressed. The portion size is absolutely perfect and for $12 it’s a damn good bargain. It has a beautiful homemade feel and taste to it.
For those saying that there isn’t much filling, there is a bit of a hollowness but for me the filling to pastry ratio is perfect.
They also sell all my favourite vegan products too (managed to nab a vego bar).
I was so impressed and I will be passing on recommendations to any friends (vegan and non-vegan) visiting Bondi.
