Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful, creative, delicious desserts, good service online and in person...we ordered a very large cake for a work celebration and it was divine! What's not to like?

I purchased a Platinum jubilee weekend super duper afternoon tea box and wow! It was amazing. First of all the presentation was just beautiful, seriously that was just the packaging without having seen the contents. Then we opened the boxes and unleashed deliciousness. The bakewell...tart and Victoria sponge were beautiful and delicious. I don't normally like jaffa but the jaffa cakes were so good. I love gingernut biscuits and these did not dissapoint ( I've hidden two that were left so I get them) the scones were beautiful with more than enough jam and cream and last but not least the mini dundee cake was everyone's favorite and they all wanted more. Couldn't recommend more highly for any occasion.More

I ordered a selection of desserts/tarts for our 40th Wedding Anniversary dinner, what a fabulous presentation with the box coming wrapped in a pretty pink ribbon and each dessert individually boxed. Thankfully I ordered twice as many as there were people as many came back...for seconds. Burch and Purchese have a great reputation and deservedly so, not only is their product delicious but their staff are perfection personified also. Thank you for adding to our special dinner.More

Ordered a carrot cake for my 60th birthday and what a superb cake it was. Easy to order on line and pick up from Stu Yarra. The cake was magnificent with a carrot cake and a citrus mousse and a cream over the cake. Decorated...beautifully and was a delight to eat and all my friends thought the same. Thank you to B&P for making my celebration even more special. Highly recommendedMore

Came here after seeing the main chef at Masterchef. Wasn't disaapinted with the offerings. They take custom orders and ours was made elegantly. Recommend this place.

Finally got back here after a two year wait as I live in a regional area. Darren and Cath were once again so welcoming and I was able to buy some amazing desserts and snacks. Pretty pleased with my signed cookbook too!

Sometimes places have food that looks the part but doesn't deliver on flavour. B&P is not one of those places! Each time a visit is met with plenty of smiles and a happy tummy. A must visit for when you need to satisfy your sweet...tooth! Coffee is also fantastic.More

Any trip to Melbourne needs a walk down to see Darren, Cath & their team at this magical sweet studio! Their desserts are all magnificent and can be eaten on a couple of street side tables or taken home to enjoy later (with larger cakes...available to) and they’re both thoroughly lovely people with time for a chat (as were the other staff I met) Highly recommend a visit, you won’t be disappointed (and pick up one of Darrens Chefs eat books whilst you’re there, I loved the toastie one and got the breakfast one on this visit)More

Burch and Purchase is THE place to go if you're looking for something special. I took a selection of mini desserts for a special afternoon tea for my Mum's birthday. Friends from overseas were delighted with the treats I gave them for Easter...the most delightful...chocolate kangaroos-delicate and delicious. The range is spectacular in both flavour and presentation. Pop by and have a lookMore

Delicious assortment of gourmet cakes, biscuits and chocolate. The individual cakes average $10 each. The flavours are varied and the presentation professional. You can also purchase large cakes for celebrations. It appears to me that the plastic cylindrical packaging for the individual cakes is not...recyclable which is very disappointing. It would be great if they could make an edible package but I realise it wouldn’t be transparent so the different cake layers would be hidden. Perhaps there is another solution? There are a couple of tables outside (too cold in winter for me) but unfortunately this is not a sit down cafe it’s a lovely cake shop so for people like us who don’t live in the area we have to takeaway so bring your esky!More

Burch & Purchese has been on the hit list for a while, since sampling their sweets at a food festival. I had been meaning to go with a fellow foodie, and this was our third attempt. The shop is lovely with a dessert cabinet on...one side with a rainbow of glossy, beautifully crafted cakes, and on the other a sensational array of treats, and sugar art. It's easy to get lost during the selection process, and I eventually chose one of their new offerings, the pina colada - coconut sponge, vanilla pineapple compote, coconut mousse, vanilla malibu jelly, pine lime vanilla curd, coconut cream, and pineapple jelly. Cute presentation with a chocolate coconut half. Loved how it comes together. Both Darren and Cath were present, and it's easy to see how this gorgeous team makes such exceptional sweets.More

I have been admiring the sweets from the classy Burch & Purchase for a while. I was delighted to meet one of the owners Cath today - super friendly and so knowledgeable in all the products here and worth having a chat with to hear...about the studio and it's history. Situated on Chapel St, South Yarra; near the Quest Apartments and the Olsen Hotel and Como. It is easy to find whether on foot, by car [park across the road at the Woolworth's carpark], bike or by tram. I chose not to take a photo of the interior [though there are many out there to see, as I wish you to be filled with delight and wonderment as I was when I first entered the studio.] You can see the sweets being made in the back, which is a delight to watch especially if you have children. Outside there are a few cute tables and seats to devour your sweet delights at and encourage passersby to go in and buy too. You cannot go wrong with your choices here, not matter what your dietary needs are. This week is Cookie Week, though I went for something else that consisted of a personal favourite - caramel. My final choice was the Chocolate, Mandarin and Salted Caramel Sweet, cleverly layered and presented in a plastic cylinder / dome. This is a gluten & nut free option. The layers consisted of: * flourless chocolate sponge - was like a chocolate crumble almost - yum * mandarin cream - breaks up the sweetness of the other layers - also yum * salted caramel cream - oh boy, I could eat a whole cake of this [though you can buy some in jars] - my favourite part, though I admit to being biased towards the caramel in the first place! * dark chocolate & mandarin mousse - so good! * shiny, chocolate mirror glaze - yum ** topped with a small square of tempered chocolate - again, yum I tossed up between a coffee and the new hot chocolate mix they make there. I went all out and got the almond milk hot chocolate, which was accompanied by a big slice of delectable marshmallow. [I recommend taking a bite and dropping it into your cup to soak up the chocolate]. So divine - chocolate heaven. I also purchased the salted caramel chocolate gold bars - wow! My rating couldn't be anything but 5 - the exquisitely presented shop, artistically created/presented delectable sweets and friendly staff make for a great experience and a special treat for anyone who loves sweets - locals or tourists alike. I will be back. *follow them on Instagram and Twitter as they will alert you to special, sweet treats they are making.More

Absolutely amazing edible works of art that taste as incredible as they look and, amazingly reasonably priced, considering the work that must go into these little delights.
