Unfortunately, don't get to Sydney enough to enjoy 16 but every time is a special treat. Just a small restaurant with a limited menu but it's what makes dining so special, wonderful food and top service from a team who know and value all their customers. Although I love variety, difficult to go past the scallops for an entree and the deboned spatchcock with mushroom risotto is absolute heaven. A truly skilled chef.

We were visiting from the US on a very quick family visit and found this restaurant at the last minute and were lucky to get in because it was packed when we arrived. The food was amazing. We both cook, we have both traveled extensively in Italy and nearby Mediterranean countries and really like Italian cooking. We just loved what Chef Toru is doing with the basic concept of Italian cooking but would assure potential visitors that this is not your grandmother's Italian cooking. The menu is fairly limited but we had great difficulty deciding what to order because so many of the dishes on offer sounded so interesting. We had also had a substantial lunch on the day we visited so didn't want to eat too much. We began by splitting a deep fired Zucchini flower (stuffed with baccala, potato, leek and milk) which was amazing. We're reading what we want to into this, but it seemed to us that the Japanese influence on this dish was the subtlety of the flavours and the thoughtful way in which the food was presented (a small sheet of cardboard under the deep fried Zucchini flower to soak up the cooking oil and ensure that the food was very crisp and not at all oily). We both ordered the Spatchcock although normally we each try to order something different, mainly because the menu description sounded so good. The spatchcock is de-boned and stuffed with a mushroom risotto. The meat was cooked perfectly with excellent crispy skin while the stuffing was very tasty but subtle. We also order sides of roasted potatoes ( incredibly good) and beans and a ruccola salad with parmesan, also excellent. Overall, a very successful endeavour, in our view. It's Italian food but immaculately cooked and presented and raised to a whole new level. The wine list is small. The Valpolicella that we selected was excellent and very reasonably priced. We suspect that the whole list might be similarly good. Our waitress, who handled the whole restaurant on her own and was working faster than a one-armed paper hanger, was wonderful. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.

What a great little restaurant. With its Italian/Japanese style they’ve produced some really interesting dishes that taste amazing. The oven baked fig entrée was one of the best dishes I’ve had in years and the lamb ragu was the perfect follow up. Will definitely be going back.

Four couples went for dinner and the bill came to $520.00 (including a tip) Each couple brought a bottle of wine and the corkage charge was $15.00 per bottle. Two salads were ordered - only one ever arrived. And it was tiny and consisted only of rocket lettuce. The service was shocking and for such a small place left me wondering where the staff were. My main course was fish wrapped in a paper bag. A huge performance was made of cutting open the bag and sprinkling some nuts on it but for $38 it was just so so. The single toilet is outside and needs mountain climbing skills to negotiate. Altogether a once off underwhelming experience

I attended this restaurant as part of a group, my first visit. A small restaurant with very attentive, pleasant staff. An Italian influenced menu, from a Japanese team. A good range of entrees, the zucchini flower was really good. Main courses include some interesting pasta options, a 500g T Bone and deboned quail. Plenty of choice. Well worth a return visit.

Eatable art at its finest. Delicate delightful delicious degustation meal. Each mouthful presented a taste of flavour combined with texture unique to the crafted art that was presented to us with each plate. Each plate was an art work itself and with details explained by the waitress. The colour of the food in each plate harmonized with the accompanying eatable flowers leaves and condiments.

Italian/Japanese fusion: what an unlikely mix -- it could all go horribly wrong. Fortunately for us, 16 was open on Christmas Eve, but limited to the omakase (set) menu. OK. So in we went, with no idea of how many courses, or what was on the menu for $110 each. There's an element of trust with omakase, but ... eel ?! (I would never choose eel). This is a very small restaurant, made even smaller by having to observe social distancing restrictions, so I commend them for having made it through until now. Poulsen lighting, good art on the walls -- so far, so good. We began with delicious bread, oil and olives and we finished with tiramisu, and green-tea icecream. And in between there was pyrotechnics in the kitchen ... and, eel.

A small but intimate restaurant that delivers superb quality and flavour. Classically trained but Chef Toru has found a niche doing wonderful Italian food. So many choices to enjoy (the spatchcock) is special) and although we rarely eat dessert, Toru's apple is irresistible.

Very enjoyable blend of cultures which marries well with the wine list. Will be back again. Good attention to detail

We were a group of 8 celebrating a ZERO birthday on a Wednesday night. Some interesting dishes on the menu and we all enjoyed our entrees and mains. Zucchini flowers, scallops, scampi pasta, lamb ragout pappardelle, sardine pasta - all wonderful flavours. Each plate was well presented. The service was very good - unobtrusive but timely. It is a small restaurant, wooden floor and we were one of 3 groups. The table of 10 were so noisy at times we could not hear ourselves. Unfortunately they had no regard for other guests. However I would return again for the food - and hope there were no noisy tables. Parking in that area is difficult but at 7pm when the clearway finishes, you can park outside the front door.

We had a really yummy dinner. We shared the zucchini flowers and meatballs followed by the scampi pasta and spatchcock. I could not fault the food or service. So refreshing to be served by owners that obviously love what they do. We are looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of the menu

My favourite Italian in Sydney and even though I haven't been here for over a year, it's lost none of its quality or appeal. It's away from the eat strip and has none of the hype of restaurants in the nearby restaurant precinct but a better quality and more enjoyable. A very small and intimate restaurant with friendly and professional service with top quality produce and perfect cooking. A small menu supplemented by daily specials but the stuffed spatchcock with risotto and mushroom is the standout,

Wanting to get into some good Italian food to match the Farnese Edizone wine i was having . I choose this slightly quirky sounding place WOW what a good choice . Like all good restaurants it was basically full , but the helpful staff found a table for me . I was on my way to checking on the food and wine . Awesome meatballs anf a charred Steak did the trick . A great experience and well worth a visit . I will be back for some of the fine service and food .

This is a small cosy restaurant with a simple interior. The menu is not what I consider fusion but rather has choices that are either italian inspired or Japanese inspired which is interesting and seems to work well The menu options are limited so if you have specific tastes it might present a problem however everything we ate was impeccable Meatballs were delicious ,cured mackerel was lovely, fish was perfect and the potatoes were perfectly cooked. We brought our own wine ( made an error thinking it was byo) but they were ok with this although at a hefty byo Charge . Service was quite good. A bit hit and miss but overall ok . Prices were mid range .

This hidden gem is worth discovering. Wonderfully fresh, creatively inspired dishes with a wait staff that know the menu and are only too happy to oblige.
