This is a local family doing their coffee and explaining the process. We were lucky to have Dina showing us around and taking the time to explain every single detail on how do they make their coffee. Make sure you also try their Queijada de...InhameMore

As this is the only coffee plantation in Europe, this is exotic. The cafe is quite far but the view along the way is nice. The coffee is good but not really so different. Quite expensive so I did not buy to take home. Their...pastries are good though.More

This cafe has some pastries and the coffee is delicious. The owner is very friendly. To find it, you'll have to drive down a windy road that doesn't exist on google maps. The easiest way is to follow the signs for Faja dos Vimes and...when you get to end of the road just keep going. You'll be in a GPS no man's land!More

As well as a cafe where you can purchase a cup of coffee (or a bag of coffee beans) and some homemade pastries, we were able to visit the small coffee plantation and see the beans drying on stone platforms. The surrounding area is stunningly...beautiful and well worth the drive along the winding coastal road.More

A bit of a drive to get to Faja do Vimes for a cup of coffee. Even so it is a beautiful road with scenic views. Café Nunes is a small quiet bar and the coffee was good. If you ask the owner, you can...have a look at the coffee plantation behind the house. Don't expect too much of it, it is a tiny plantation. I also bought 100 gram coffeebeans for 10 €, which is really very expensive. I hope the coffee will be worth the money :-).More

Cafe Nunes is located in a gorgeous Faja in the south of Sao Jorge. It’s a cute, simple little cafe, serving locally grown coffee. They also have some sweet snacks, like the horse shoe shaped cinnamon biscuits unique to the island (especies). I am in...no way a coffee connoisseur, but I thought the coffee was pretty good. Strong and flavorful but not bitter. The owners didn’t speak a word of English, but we were lucky enough when a family member (we think) showed up who did. He showed us the small coffee plantation behind the house and explained some of the process. One of the only places in Europe (if not the only) were coffee is actually grown. A unique experience, and a relaxing stop on your tour of the island.More

I had heard of Café Nunes which serves coffee that is locally grown on the island of Sao Jorge in the Azores and that it is one of the only places in Europe which grows coffee. I had a decaf, so unfortunately could not taste...the coffee but my husband had their espresso. He was disappointed, I don't think the guy who was serving us knew what he was doing so the coffee was weak and didn't foam. I bought some coffee beans to take with me which I haven't tried yet. It was 10 Euros for 50 grams so I'm hoping that when I make this at home it will be work the money!More

This cafe serves the coffee grown locally in Faja dos Vimes, one of the only places in Europe with a climate suitable for coffee plantations. The service was very nice and the cafe is quiet, an ideal place to relax!

Fajã dos Vimes and Fajã de São João in São Jorge Island are the only two places in Europe that has locally grown coffee. Café Nunes in Fajã dos Vimes is the one place that offers a tour of the coffee tree plantations and then...sit down to take a sip of the real thing. Harvest is usually in May. If you go during those few weeks, you will probably see them collecting and then laying down the coffee beans on the ground for drying. Attached to the café is an artisan craft shop, where they make embroidery and fabric using traditional methods. The best way to get to the cafe is to hike from Serra do Topo down to the fajã, following the official trail PR2SJO. You will get a fantastic look of the whole area from the top, before winding your way down. Look for the natural "bitter" spring water about halfway down for a refreshing sip. After the visit, you can pick up PR3SJO trail along the coast for about 10km to Fajã de São João. You get excellent views of the south coast of São Jorge, and on good days, you can see Pico mountain across the channel. End your day with a beer at the taberna after arriving at Fajã de São João!More
