had a beautiful meal here recently on a visit to Castlemaine. wow what a high standard for pub meals. we shared lamb shoulder & thyme croquettes w salsa verde for entree which was amazing, for main i sous vide lamb shank and pan friend gnocchi...and my wife has seafood bomba. its was die for. huge serves, great value. 10/10 definitely recommendedMore

Called in for a cold drink on a very hot day and decided to stay for tea. Dining room was comfortably cool. We had a shared tasting plate for $30. I thought it might have more content but it all tasted good. My companions had...the rissoles and mash. Mash was great but rissoles a bit pink and bacon way over cooked. Whiting, chips and salad was a generous serve and nice sauce. I had the mushroom risotto which had a lot of black rubbery, unfamiliar mushrooms. Really more mushroom than rice. Not to my liking. The service was great especially in recommending a local red wine. Great historic hotel worth a visit.More

Being a local hotel with plenty of dining areas,including a pleasant outdoor tree-shaded eating area, it's ideal for large groups of people. The menu is extensive, and cost is on a par, or under, that charged by other less enjoyable eating places. A Ned Kelly...heater adds to the ambience in the main dining area on cooler nights, the lighting is good, seating with plenty of room, excellent service from the cheerful waitresses, and short waiting times for meals. We frequent the Five Flags on a regular basis, both as just a couple, or with our extensive family. We've never been disappointed on any facet of our choice and recommend the Five Flags highlyMore

Recently had dinner on a Sunday night at this hotel with a large group. We all ordered individually. Comfit of duck was a small serve, but beautifully cooked. Small steak meal was huge and cooked to perfection. Salads prepared well. Nothing left on our plates....Shiraz bought at the bar was local and good. The Apple cider was from the local Harcourt area. Crisp and dry and one of the best ciders I had ever had the pleasure of drinking. Meals all came out quite quickly and staff were pleasant and happy to chat.More

What a great find , staff were friendly and accommodating even when we were a little confused about the ordering system the owner came to the table and explained . The menu has some good choices and not just your traditional pub fare. Prices were...very reasonable for the quality and size of the meals on offer . The chef like the owners are new but you can tell they are putting a lot of love and attention into the food presentation and service. Nearly didn’t go because of some of the recent reviews but so glad we did . Best steak I have had for quite a while. Don’t be mislead this would rate amongst the top pubs in the region.More

Not a great experience. Only 1 person at our large table enjoyed their meal. Even the fish and chips were awful. 2 meals were forgotten. And then we sat amongst our dirty places following the meal as the staff didnt bother collect them.

Nice spot to stop for overnight on way down to Port Campbell. Parked up with van and had dinner in the hotel. Awesome meal! Lots of options for gluten and dairy free. I had the Pork Belly which was too much to eat and the...veges with Romescu sauce were fresh, delicious and well cooked. Husband had the rissoles and that was also a big delicious meal. Staff Mel and Greg were excellent to deal with and nothing was tool much trouble. Meal was a little more pricey than I originally expected but totally worth every cent......and because the meals were so generous we also have tomorrow’s lunch! Nice warm fire in the dining room which was cosy....Well worth the stop.More
