I had a lovely Thai lunch with an old friend today. Super friendly service and a wide variety of dishes to choose from. We were Very happy with our meal.
Only one slight glitch: one of our two entrees arrived after the mains had arrived only when we reminded them that we were still waiting on it. To be fair they did have a couple of large tables ordering at the same time so it was not a such a big deal.
The important stuff like the friendly, courteous service and the incredibly delicious food was faultless. I would definitely eat here again.

Thai Pothong is a top notch Thai Restaurant. I am getting a little cynical about the prices being charged at many Thai Restaurants these days as rice cannot cover up an absence of other ingredients on the plate. While not enormous servings are more than adequate here and the quality i fabulous. I have never been let down by the food at this restaurant and would recommend it for an intimate evening for two or a a special event.
Despite the massive size of the restaurant the feel is quite intimate and the service highly responsive.

If you’re looking to celebrate a special event and want to be WOW-ed by not just the food but also the customer service... look no further than Thai Pothong Newtown. We unexpectedly ended up there for my best friend’s birthday dinner and it was nothing short of memorable. The staff are friendly, accommodating, pleasant and dedicated to providing the highest service level. The prices are great for the atmosphere and so worth it when it comes to food plus it’s BYO whilst also being completely licensed. Definitely give the lychee drink a go- delicious!!
The staff gathered and sang happy birthday to my best friend and we even got a complimentary dessert which was again... so unexpected. I can’t wait to be back for other special occasions! Highly recommend this for friends, families, partners, etc.
Ps. Given the covid environment, the staff are exercising great precaution with face covering masks and all tables seeming to be socially distanced.

While the food is great the service is very inconsistent, with 2 people ordering and only mains with rice it took over 45 mins to get the food and the rice arrived first. We had to ask for fresh hot rice as our other meal came out a long time after we were served the rice and then we has to ask for our other dish as there was a 10 minute break between receiving the first dish? I really like this Thai restaurant however on this not so busy night we had really bad service. They asked how was it and it mentioned how long it took to get our food. The cashier gave us a 20% discount. This was a good gesture however my friend said they wouldn't go back there.

Thai Pothong is consistently excellent. It is our local 'go to' to celebrate family occasions and we always take our visitors there too. The food is absolutely delicious and full of flavour. The service is second to none - professional and friendly waiting staff who are very accommodating with children and birthday cakes. If you're celebrating a birthday, they will even email you a photo of your table, which is a really lovely touch. The gift shop is great for trinkets.

To celebrate one of our family members’ birthday, we went for a dinner at Thai Pothong in Newtown. According to one of their staff, Pothong means Golden Leaf.
The dining room is beautifully decorated with Thai ornaments and handy crafts all over the place and most of the items are for sale, not only on the main level but also downstairs.
The room is very bright and clean.
Although it was raining, the restaurant was full. We booked a table in advanced and they provided a birthday balloon knowing it was someone’s birthday. After dinner, we also received complimentary ice cream which made us feel looked after.
Food was fantastic and the service is very fast and efficient.

Honestly guys, you have to experience it! We have booked for my boyfriends birthday along with a friend the service is absolutely OUTSTANDING! Yes, it is a bit on the pricey side but I have experienced more expensive thai fod that had low quality food. For dessert, I have simply asked for a spare candle and they arrived with and our dessert and free ice cream for my boyfriend with candles and sparkles and the whole team sang happy birthday at our table.
I can't stress this enough, BOOK NOW!

The service here at Thai Patong was nothing short of incredible, amazing staff and incredible food. Prices for banquet meals are so good for the amount of food you receive and for the unreal service from the whole team. With complimentary balloons and ice cream and a complimentary gift for my brothers birthday, I cannot say thank you enough. This is well worth the drive from South Western Sydney, I will be back!!

My friend and I had our birthday here. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff team was extremely friendly. With a tiny one-off surcharge per person, we got to consume our five BYO bottles.
The staff team prepared our cake, provided plates, and helped us distribute the cake slices. We even got our little memorial gifts.
Not to exaggerate but this was one of the best birthday dinners I have had!

Cannot recommend this place enough, the food and customer service was the best I have had in a long time. I booked for a 30th birthday, all through the process of booking and corresponding via email all the staff were attentive, helpful, polite and professional. They went above and beyond providing balloons and decorations free of charge, providing complimentary photos and were more than happy for us to bring a cake and serve it. They cut it up all for us after into individual containers to take home. The service was amazing, they were quick and efficient and super friendly and polite. They were attentive, constantly topping up our drinks and checking all was fine. The food was amazing, we had the Phuket Banquet and it was so yummy and fresh with beautiful flavours, each dish came out quickly and we were never waiting long between entree and main. At the end of the night I even received a birthday gift! they were such lovely people. They were also very thorough with their hygiene during COVID. We were all temperature checked on arrival and there was a bottle of hand sanitiser on each table. All the tables were comfortably spread out so you did not feel like you were sitting on top of everyone. Despite being a large venue it was also not too noisy like other restaurants can be. Highly recommend this place, will be back :)

Visited this very large, very crowded restaurant on Mothers Day. The service was very professional and very good. Nothing was too much trouble. We had the Samui Banquet Menu which was wonderful.
Every dish was beautifully presented and very tasty and at $49 per person was good value for money. I particularly enjoyed the Golden Egg Pastry Tartlet, Garlic Barramundi and BBQ Lamb Cutlet.
Although it's a long way from where I live I would make the effort to go back. Fabulous!!!

I have been to Thailand dozens of times and love the food.
Thai Patong is the Real Deal!
Top quality food, exceptional service and great atmosphere.
Don't be put off by the size of this restaurant, Nick runs this place like clockwork.
You can tell the staff like working there and bend over backwards to make your experience a memorable one.
Stand out dishes are Stuffed Chicken Wings, Duck Salad, Prawn Bettle Leaf, Mango Sticky Rice. Just to name a few.
They also make a very tasty Mojito.
Not cheap but Quality matches the price.
A must if you are a local or a visitor!

The restaurant went above and beyond in both the food and service department. We arrived for our booking at 6.30 and were shown straight to our table and had drinks orders taken immediately.
Because we'd stated the dinner for 6 was for a birthday, the crew at Pothong had gone to the trouble of decorating the table with a bunch of large ballloons.
The entrees and mains were generous and luxurious. A special mention for the yellow chilli chicken - divine and the kaffir lime undertones just make this dish so good.
No detail was spared, from the COVID check upon arrival, staff wearing masks, hand sanitizer on each table, a laminated check in guide which showed us how to register our check in and of course they guys took great care in refrigerating and setting up the candles on my daughter's birthday cake.
After our mains had been cleared, the cake arrived soon after along with 5 staff members to join in a chorus of singing happy birthday. It was truly fantastic. The staff also politely asked if they could take a photo for their own Facebook page to which we more than happily agreed.
As if that wasn't enough, my daughter was presented with her own gift from the restaurant: a beautiful ceramic Japanese tea cup in a small recycled paper bag made in a village in Thailand.
The food, the atmosphere, the staff and most importantly the entire experience was one of the best I've had in a long time in a restaurant. These guys not only understand hospitality, but how to market and deliver great and memorable moments that make us want to come back many more times.
Special shout out out to our waiter Oat - he was super friendly, super attentive and a true gentleman.

The Thai Pothong on King Street 294 in Newtown is voted the best Thai restaurant by Thai Restaurants Association Australia. We wanted to get to the bottom of this statemen and we were very curious how a restaurant in Sydney's outskirts could win this important award. Even without a reservation we were nicely greeted and led to a nice table near the window. Waiter Tack took care of us and presented us with the rich, but not overloaded menu. We chose a Papaya Soft Shell Crab Aalad and the Betel leaf prawns as a starter. The main course was the Red Duck Curry and the Ginger with Pork.
We were totally enthusiastic about our food and also about the very attentive and friendly service. The beautifully ambience of the restaurant takes the guest for a few hours to Thailand. About the food: The two starters were already fantastic in presentation and taste and I don't think I've ever had a better red curry with duck. Mainly the duckmeat was just a dream. The same applies to the second main course Ginger with Pork. We highly recommend a visit to this place. The metro runs from Circular Quai to Newtown in just under a quarter of an hour (4 stations), the restaurant can then be reached in a few minutes' walk along King Street. The Thai Pothong was very busy at lunchtime, in the evening I would recommend a reservation.

We booked here for my birthday lunch with family recently. Food is always so fresh and tasty. Restaurant is decorated so beautifully and staff are wonderfully friendly. They went above and beyond after lunch when a few staff members surprised me by singing happy birthday, with an individual piece of cake and ice-cream for the table - they even had a sparkler to top it all off. For those with gluten intolerance/coeliac, there is a separate menu, which the restaurant takes seriously. I highly recommend this restaurant for wonderful Thai food, friendly staff and a very welcoming atmosphere.
