Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a find! We discovered this amazing little place when we took the wrong turn going to Heathcote. After reading a few reviews decided that we would come back the next day for lunch. We were not disappointed, the ambience was great, met a few...locals and the food selection was fantastic and tasty. Very generous servings, true pub meal. Staff were friendly and wonderful, full of apologies when there was a little confusion around my ordered meal. Easily and rectified without a fuss. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you are driving through.More

Great little pub. Stayed overnight in our caravans opposite the pub. Great pub food. Meals were big. The staff and locals were very friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a stopover for a meal

This is your iconic country pub, situated in the middle of nowhere. Well, about 20 mins from Heathcote anyway. I dropped in there specifically for a meal as I had a Saturday afternoon to fill up and had had a couple of meals here previously,...which were very good. Saturday was the the first time I had had the opportunity to use my Senior's card, and as I wasn't particularly hungry I ordered from the Seniors menu thinking it would be a small serve given the significantly lower price. Wrong!! It was huge, a size many other pubs would do well to emulate with their full price meals. I couldn't finish my plate! I had ordered the beer battered whiting with chips and salad. What I was presented with was a piece of fish which overhung the plate, with a dish of tartare sauce, a very generous serve of chips, and a well presented and well proportioned salad. The batter was a deep golden colour and tasted magnificent, as was the fish it enclosed. The chips were cooked to perfection and lightly salted, needing no further seasoning. The salad was well presented with a light coating of mayonnaise and joy of joy, an old school (and rare) slice of beetroot....much appreciated :). The staff were very friendly and the service was beyond impeccable. I complimented the bar staff on my way out, and told them I would definitely be back, not realising at the time that I will be back in just under 2 weeks with a group of around 12 people. I'm looking forward to a repeat performance which I have no doubt they will provide.More

We had a most amazing and wonderful dinner and staff service experience at the Toolleen Hotel Easter Sunday. Even though the staff were under the pressure, we could tell that all they wanted is to make use all feel welcome and provide excellent service and...food experience. Well that is exactly what we received, amazing simply but very tasty food and excellent customer service by all at the Hotel.More

An historic country pub, lovely friendly staff & good pub grub at a reasonable price served with a local red wine from just up the road which I purchased a bottle of at the winery the next day. Very Covid aware & safe, we sat...in the courtyard which is huge. Highly recommend the steaks.More

On our way home from Yarrawonga we chanced upon this great pub. We were only looking for a sandwich and coffee and to be able to sit outside with our dog, this was not a problem. The toasted ham cheese and tomato sandwiches were superb...and happily served to us outside. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to this pub again.More

Highly recommended by some local winery we dropped in and were very surprised by the excellent quality (and quantity) of the meals. Cutlets, rissoles, fish and Parma were all excellent. Well washed down with local wines at very reasonable prices. Friendly staff and some great...rustic items scattered around the bars.More

Offering parmas, pots & heaps of atmosphere this pub in the middle of nowhere is a welcome relief in a region devoid of anything interesting. We were staying locally & although not recommended by the accommodation we found the Toolleen shed as it’s known very...congenial with great food in generous servings. Should have stayed here!More

We dined here on a Tuesday and it had a good clientele. We ate in the front bar section. Lots of rustic memorabilia. I ordered a Parma, ( my go to dish in a pub ) and my partner the steak. Both were delicious. Lots...of “ characters” to chat to, which made the evening fun! The owner even offered my partner a taste of a local wine. This is a good Aussie pub.More

Motorhomers and caravaners should love this country pub. There is nothing in Toolleen apart from the pub and two churches and lots of history. Directly opposite the pub is a very large flat area with public toilets, no showers. There are plenty of trees but...prop under the young ones not the old as big limbs do drop. I felt that at the Toolleen pub they were really trying hard. The staff were welcoming. "Happy hour' was from 4 to 6.30pm. Meals started from 6pm and we were impressed. We shared one seafood platter which we couldn't finish and it was more than the usual deep fried selection. There were also prawns, mussels and a decent salad. There was a different promotion each night; schnitzels, fish and chips and such. We were there in the middle of a drought and showers and water for vans was not available from the pub. There are motel rooms attached to the pub. It is nice to encourage RV friendly places like this and there are wineries and historic sites nearby. I believe that the free camp does get a crowd if there is a wedding reception at the pub's Tin Shed, however the night that we were there we had the entire area to ourselves.More

Our sunday night dinner of crumbed lamb cutlets and vegetables with good wine was very enjoyable. You get the typical pub size meals for a very reasonable price. Great atmosphere for a small hotel, great service with friendly helpful staff and friendly local patrons who...will go out of there way to help. Put this little ripper on your radar.More

A group of about 12 of us had a really nice sat lunch there although it was not a big menu there was enough to choose from with kid's catered for as well. With our group and a few in the bar and a large...group arriving it made for a busy lunch time. All the food was very nice and all arrived pretty much at the same time and I think the large group were happy as well. We had not been over here for a few years but we will not leave it so long till our next visit. Great country hotel well done to the staff.More
