voted the best affordable paella valencia in town, they continue to go from strength to strength on this dish. made fresh daily on market days in giant paella pans laden with calamari, chicken, chorizo and local mussels, you just cannot beat the $14.50 price tag. the stuffed zucchini flowers when in season are excellent as well. we keep saying we must... This restaurant is on the outer perimeter of the Sth Melbourne markets. It is open during market times and at night time. They make great paella in a wagon on the footpath, which can be takeaway, sit at their shaded tables outside or ordered from the restaurant with waitress service. There are many Spanish dishes on the menu, including a... More

Love the paella here at simply Spanish. Get it every time I'm at south Melbourne market. Full of flavour! Would love to also try the garlic prawns!

The Paella was moist and flavour was full bodied. Ingredients were fresh and we would have gone for second helpings if we could.

Maybe we got a bad batch.. but we opted for the take away and thought we try it out as there's always a queue and it's the "best paella" outside of Spain... what a lie! Can't believe we paid 13.50 for such a below average dish. It literally had no taste and was ridiculously soggy plus 2 small mussels and... More

Took some interstate friends here for dinner based on some feedback. The service was very good and attentive. After ordering we were pleased to have constant feedback on the timing of our food and we were not disappointed. Fantastic tapas but especially the paella was superb. A great night and highly recommended.

We dropped in here for lunch and found it to be quite enjoyable. They had big pots of ready to go paella but we opted for a chicken and chorizo paella from the menu. Because it was made to order it took a while to come, and was around $21 for a smallish dish. I wasn't keen on the chicken... More

Visiting Melbourne, we thought tapas would suit for dinner & had noticed Simply Spanish earlier in the day at the markets. The staff were lovely, and the service prompt and efficient but the food was rather bland & the squid-ink paella mostly rice, not reminiscent of Spain at all. The wine was expensive and very average. A nice atmosphere on... More

Staying in South Melbourne

Neighbourhood Profile
South Melbourne
South Melbourne hosts the city’s oldest continuous market, founded in 1867. Rows of neatly arranged fruit, vegetables and flowers splash yellows, greens and reds along the entire perimeter, where the whole neighbourhood gathers for Saturday feasts. Inside the hall, shoppers hover over the mouth-watering displays of delicatessens and specialty food shops. Further in, a bazaar full of giftware, clothing, and kitchen utensils completes the scene. Take a break to walk the wide and shady streets and stroll along the Victorian-era heritage terrace houses. But return to the market in time for some paella, simmering in three large frypans on the footpath and served straight onto your plate.
