We went to the night market at the South Melbourne market which was pumping with people. Despite the crowds, the staff at Koy seated us promptly and gave us excellent service without waiting. The staff worked as a team which meant no waiting. The food was delicious, particularly the meatballs. Strongly recommend.

Finally got a strong double shot with hot water in the side that is not only great taste and with a crema but is also hot! So many places don't hear their cups and by the time you come to drink it it's warm at best. Great work guys!!!

We had a Christmas function at Koy recently, and it was our second time in as many months. The food is pretty good - but quite expensive compared to other similar restaurants, and the service is slow. Inside the restaurant is really loud, and outside tables are subject to duelling musical tastes from the neighbouring restaurants! Overall, it is average,... More

We had a quick lunch to refuel and have some time off our feet while spending an enjoyable few hours browsing and gathering goodies from the South Melb. Market. The restaurant was buzzing, wait staff were efficient, friendly and attentive. We ordered piping hot yummy gozleme from the griddles outside and shared a couple of lip-smacking meze dishes. The menu... More

This place is our Thursday night special. It has half price meals including the menu show stopper, a Turkish style mixed grill. This could so easily be a bunch of cheap cuts cooked badly, instead it is a super tasty array of good stuff. There is a fillet of beef, Turkish spicy sausage, chicken and even a lovely cut of... We went here for breakfast on Sunday morning & it was so good. There were different & interesting options on the menu which made it very appealing. The smoked hummus & lamb served on beautiful flat bread was amazing, but everyone was so pleased with their meal choice. They are fairly big serving which was great, plenty of fuel then to do the DFO"S.Staff were... I love the food here. Very relaxed atmosphere as it's on the outside of the market. The staff are friendly and unobtrusive. The gozleme is to die for! Reasonably priced as well. Highly recommend for a casual bite on a market day.

Me and my wife decided to go South Melbourne Saturday market and ended up in Koy when we felt peckish. Oh boy am I glad we did. Sat outside tables, very busy ordered about 5 entry size plates (about 10$ each) to share between two of us plus gozleme when we got the chance we got from gozleme stand, queue... More

Had a late lunch. We had absolutely delicious homemade hummus followed by feta saganaki cheese with a honey orange marinade then sprinkled with sesame seeds - so creamy and so yum. We then headed outside and grabbed some of the yum thin Turkish bread filled with: 1. Spinach and cheese 2. Chicken and herbs 3. Spiced Mince meat All served... More

Staying in South Melbourne

Neighbourhood Profile
South Melbourne
South Melbourne hosts the city’s oldest continuous market, founded in 1867. Rows of neatly arranged fruit, vegetables and flowers splash yellows, greens and reds along the entire perimeter, where the whole neighbourhood gathers for Saturday feasts. Inside the hall, shoppers hover over the mouth-watering displays of delicatessens and specialty food shops. Further in, a bazaar full of giftware, clothing, and kitchen utensils completes the scene. Take a break to walk the wide and shady streets and stroll along the Victorian-era heritage terrace houses. But return to the market in time for some paella, simmering in three large frypans on the footpath and served straight onto your plate.
