Based on a 50’s style American diner. Very nostalgic feel. Excellent service, waiters are alert, attentive but not intrusive and are very pleasant and friendly. This restaurant is a treat for the whole family, from the car that has a built in tv screen which makes children feel like they at a “drive in cinema” to racing car games to entertain the teenagers to child minders in the play area. There is something for everyone. My elderly father was enthralled, he browsed the vintage cars and then stood examining the jukebox reminding him of the days when he courted my mom. The decadent milkshakes are huge and definitely only recommended for teenagers or adults, but what a treat they are deliciously incredible. The food is typical diner style, huge portions but very well cooked. Burgers were large, juicy and tender. If you enjoy a good steak, then steaks and ribs here are excellent. They easily accommodate large groups of people. If you are on holiday in Jhb. This is a must try venue. Suggest booking though because they are exceptionally popular and busy especially on weekends.

Looked like we were in for treat, awesome decor and atmosphere. Alas the experience was run of the mill. Nothing spectacular just the standard burger and milkshake joint

Still serves plastic straws. When we asked the manager why he said changing straws does not address the plastic issue so why bother. Food and milk and water comes in plastic so straws are not the problem. Cannot believe there are people who still think like this. Surely ever not counts. We left without ordering.

This was a first time visit on our trip from Cape Town and took family there on request of my grandson. First impressions are great as you step into this very clever and imaginative American style restaurant. A huge play area for the children and various themed sitting areas. The menu is equally impressive and extensive making it difficult to make our choices as there were so many interesting possibilities. We all chose different menu items to give us choice on the table. Service was friendly and while it did take a while for the meals to arrive it was not so long as to be excessive. The food was really nice and no complaints from anyone which is a rare event with my family 😀. We will certainly be visiting again next time we are in town. I see some bad reviews with amazement as our experience was excellent

A huge disappointment. Went out for family outing to "experience" Chevy Lane. Decor is amazing but food was very poor quality and over priced. At least we can say we did it but never again :-( expensive lesson.

Waiters keep bringing the wrong order.
Food taste processed
Tried the Hot Dogs, Burgers, wings and milkshakes all cheap processed ingredients.
Do not waste your money if you looking for somewhere to eat with good food.
This resturant is a gimmick.

The portion sizes are very large and the variety of food is just amazing! the dishes you find here are unique and delicious! I personally always have the chicken checker board! LOL! It is however a little more pricey than other places, so dont expect a cheap meal. My bills always add up to be quite expensive.

The place tells a story on its own. A must visit once in your life time. A real treat to just be there, and then on top of all, the food is delicious, the service very good and the people so friendly! If you are in Johannesburg, put this on your 'to do list'. The place also has a safe play pen for kids to enjoy themselves, while the adults have there own fun.

I decided to only post a review after my second visit to Chevy Lane, as I was tentatively optimistic after having an impromptu lunch there a few weeks before. I was impressed with the amount of work and care that had gone into creating a nostalgic 50's era vibe, and even more impressed with the authentic, well priced and scrumptious burger that I wolfed down.
I decided to take the most critical person I know, my 13 year old son, to Chevy Lane for dinner, to see if it passed muster. It did. He had the corn dog starters and the original burger 'dragged through wisconsin' (covered in cheese) and I had the jalapeno peppers to start and one of their grill specials.
Absolutely delicious. The service was attentive and the vibe was light hearted and friendly.
I am a little concerned that it will be hard to maintain the standards in this place if they don't have the patronage, so please, let's keep this restaurant honest and give them a chance.

We came here during our 3 day stay in Johannesburg and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere is fantastic (we are from the US) so it really felt like home. The service was great and the food was yummy. Get a milkshake! Definitely spend some time looking around before or after your meal. We talked to the manager who couldn't have been nicer about where he got all the cars from. It was fascinating! If you're looking for a fun place with a great atmosphere, go here.

If you are looking for something different with a relaxed atmosphere then try Chevy lane. The decor is really authentic with a lot of attention to detail. The place is huge so can seat plenty. There is a lovely children's area with plenty to keep them occupied. The food is excellent but for the most enjoyment stick to American diner food. If you are averse to noise ask for a table on the balcony. Service was great.

We went for my daughter's 10th birthday. I have very mixed feelings about this place. The decor is amazing, beautiful, and just awesome. Every where you look there is something to look at.
The kiddies area is amazing, it's massive, and seems to be very well taken care of. There are pin ball machines for the older kids.
Toilets are cleaned often.
The food was pretty good, but definitely on the pricey side.
The one thing they really need to look at is, training their staff to deal with large tables. Our waiter really seemed to battle to deal with our table which was only 7 adults, 10 children, I wrote all the drinks orders, meals and we ordered the same dessert for all 10 children. It took around 4 and a half hours to have lunch which is really to long for what was a relatively simple meal.
I'm not sure I would go there if I didn't have children.
So as I said, it's bad but it wasn't fantastic.

Having visited many American diners, I can assure you that this is the real deal. Great food, (stick to diner food) great service, attentive managers, and the kids loved it! It’s not cheap, but nor is the decor. Well worth it.
