The pub is at the start of the Pennine Walk in a beautiful surroundings but the food and impersonal service spoilt the whole. We ordered fish and chips and boy, they were so greasy dripping of oil. The service was not particularly friendly (was not unfriendly either) but it made us feel as one of many walkers they have seen... More

Came on a Sunday for lunch, had the pick and mix sausage recommended by the staff and my wife had the ham egg and chips, the chips where slightly crispy but apart from that everything tasted really good, we had a couple of drinks after too in the beer garden. We picked the right day for it then we went... More

I visited The Old Nags Head recently and had the classic burger following a walk to Kinder Scout. Sadly, the meat was of a quality akin to that of a greasy burger from a late-night, car park burger van. I wouldn't usually have minded save the fact that it cost around £11, which is fairly extortionate considering the poor quality... More

A lovely looking pub at the start of the Penine Way. It is in all the guide books, so is very famous and great to look at. We had lunch there and the food was good, as was the beer. However it felt that we were just more tourists and the usual Derbyshire welcome was missing. They had enough customers... More

Not just a perfect place to have a pub due to its location and the fact myself and my girlfriend love a daytime drink and a great place to walk about but this pub has the lot. The staff are lovely not sure if I met the owner but we are always welcomed with open arms. The food was incredible.... More

Visited the 'hikers' bar twice over the last couple of days whilst staying in Edale on business. Myself and a colleague arrived early and decided to visit for lunch, after limited dialogue with the bar staff we were told that we could order food in the beer garden (Car Park), the barmaid grunting us towards some tatty menus. I ordered... More

Came here on Easter Monday around 5pm. It wasn't too busy, pleasant. Nice atmosphere. Hikers and dogs welcome. Decided to have the sausage and mash pick n mix at £9.95. I had the garlic sausage, garlic mash and mushroom & tarragon sauce. It came with mushy peas. There is a vegetarian option which my husband had. Ample portion but if... More

Claims to be one of the best 100 pubs in England and we cannot disagree. Low beamed ceiling, lots of small rooms with tables for some great pub grub and beer. Good pub food, but go for Nags special - rich stew in mash, all in a giant yorkshire, with veg. Nags 1577 is a great dark beer to ease... More

We went in on a weekday afternoon and both had homemade pie and chips. It arrived promptly and was hot and tasty.. leaving just enough room for a shared fruit crumble. This is a big pub and might get very busy at weekends given location at the end of the Pennine way. Good choice.

We had been out walking and the weather turned. We made our way back to Edale in the rain and decided to get out of the bad weather and have something to eat. The food was quick to be brought to the table and was piping hot. We had the slow cooked beef in red wine served in a Yorkshire... More
