Food & wine was very nice. The trainee sommelier was very helpful in our choices. The 1st waiter had to be reminded 3 times about family member's allergy requirements. Cold venue.

Visited with my wife and son on strength of other reviews. The food was excellent - I had the Turbot which was lovely. My wife and son had the Ox Cheek which they said was excellent. Nice setting too - we went on a wild...and windy night so very cosy. Not sure where the bad reviews come from as everything was first class. Would not hesitate to return.More
Oh my goodness, what a fabulous find. Visiting family in Dundee,Scotland we had a quick trip to Stonehaven and we couldn't have wished for better day. We just popped in for a chance lunch, beautifully decorated, fabulous view across the pretty little harbour, great, welcoming...staff and wow, the food was just fabulous. A vegetarian and meat option available as well as plenty of fish, desserts to die for and just the best oatcakes in the whole of Scotland! Serious cooking skills here and they deserve to do very well indeed. Price wise, very reasonable, worth every single penny! A complete joy, can not wait to visit again when we're back in Scotland.More
They honestly need to bring back Gordon Ramseys kitchen nightmares between the rubbish service and terrible food this place would be a hit. The chefs really beed to put all their fingers out.
If you are traveling between Edinburgh and Aberdeen, do not miss a stop in the charming village of Stonehaven and its Tollbooth Restaurant. Absolutely delicious seafood, some of the best I've ever had.
We planned a visit to Stonehaven just to eat at this restaurant again. It lived up to my expectations which I was glad for, as we brought another couple with us and no one was disappointed! One of our party is celiac and they had...no problem accommating gluten-free. Top notch food and interesting wine options. The setting is beautiful and our view of the harbour was spectacular.More
Saturday night treat. Lovely restaurant, the food was fantastic and the staff, were excellent. We had Oysters, Bisque, the Monkfish special followed by creme brulee and a cheese board. A couple of cocktails rounded of a perfect evening. Can’t wait to go back.
My partner and I had a food voucher to use, so decided to come for lunch. Lovely food, the langoustine bisk and the Rock turbot were just fabulous. My partner enjoyed the muscles and the lemon sole. Not sure about all these reviews complaining about...portion sizes, we were stuffed after two courses and didn’t even have room for desert!! Yes it is a little pricey but the quality of the food is well worth the cost. Worth a visit!More
Wow from start to finish… Really welcoming atmosphere and the staff were very attentive. I couldn’t fault the food, highly recommend the pork belly main. 10/10, compliments to the chef.
This was our third reunion event at the Tolbooth and the first since it was taken over by new ownership/management. The food and service were absolutely superlative from start to finish. Many thanks to Gus and his excellent team. I have no doubt we will...all be returning in smaller groups very soon.More
First time back here since it was taken over. Nice selection of wines on offer and a pretty simple dinner menu. Langostine Bisque and Rock Turbot were both delicious. Staff were very nice. I'm not sure I agree with the over priced comments in several...other reviews. I mean I get it, you can buy a scallop a lot cheaper than on this menu, but all the dishes we had were beautifully prepared and tasted fantastic so in my opinion it was worth the money.More
Went for a special occasion, had heard lots of good reports however we won't be back. The food was OK, nothing special to be honest. Lovely setting but how this warrants the extortionate prices is beyond me. My starter consisted of 1 scallop and some...grated pickled Carrots and cost £16. Being local, i know how much scallops cost here and I felt this was absolutely ludicrous and a bit of a cheek! My partner had the langostine bisque which was tasty enough but was not hot. For main I had the lemon sole which came wth 2 potatoes, 2 bits of broccoli and 2 pieces of crayfish. It was OK, nothing special. Could have made it at home, that cost £25. My partners main was the pork belly which he said was OK but the portion size was laughable. All served by very young inexperienced servers who were clearly overwhelmed by a full and busy restaurant. A bit disappointed and I don't really understand what the hype is about.More
My grandson & his wife took my husband & myself for dinner as an early birthday present. We hadn’t been since the new owners took over & was completely blown away by the food, everything cooked to perfection & very well presented. Great service also...so would recommend without a doubt.More
First timers in to this restaurant for dinner with friends. Well seasoned cooked food, using local produce. Perfectly cooked fish. Nice ambience and great service. Would definitely return as a treat. The only downside for me is it's a little on the pricey side. £16...for 1 Scallop is steep.More
We had a wonderful lunch at the Tolbooth restaurant. The chefs takes great care in selecting the best ingredients that make the food and the desserts delicious 😋. The staff gave us excellent service throughout. I have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant for a...food experience at its best.More
