On a freezing Winter’s night we were welcomed by a crackling log fire and our delightful hosts, Ian and Lucinda. Their philosophy is “ local and sustainable “ - starting with the restaurant itself. It had been built using local recycled timbers and stone. We...went for the Saturday night degustation menu- a delightful showcase of local meat and seafood cooked creatively by Ian. At the start of each course, he came and explained how local produce was used in each dish right down to the garnishes. We stared with a generous serve of crayfish garnished with local watercress, followed by abalone with local kelp. I’m not normally an abalone fan, but this was delicious! We then moved on to a dorper lamb cutlet with saltbush, then famed King Island beef, served with vegetables- including marinated carrots infused with citrus and spices Dessert was a creamy pannacotta- showcasing local dairy produce. There was a good wine list with plenty of choice by bottle or glass This gem of a place is well worth the drive from Currie and you definitely won’t leave hungry!More
