Ok positives first. It's a lovely restaurant in the center of the yachting Mecca with what looks great outdoor space. We phone just before opening and they managed to find us a table. And we received a nice welcome. But then it went to pot. So we where shown to our table and ordered a couple of oriental Gins from... More

Had an anniversary Dinner at the River Rat to celebrate a year in Hamble. Owners very friendly and welcoming, kicked off with Gin and Tonics at the bar, chosen from the long list of specialist Gins available. Nice opportunity to chat to friends and locals who come in for drinks and Tapas. Moved on to Scallops and French Onion Soup... More

Lovely meal during the Easter weekend - after being on the boat for a couple of days enjoying lovely spring weather some good food in lovely surroundings was called for...and the River Rat gave the best answer. Great food and wine in a beautifully lit (and heated) hut in the garden. The fairy lit flowers were a hit with our... More

The salad and beer (Old Dick) were great. Everything else appeared to have been prepared with nothing more than bored competence. Portion control is best described as aggressive. £11.95 for 3 teeny weeny scallops is just greedy. It's a lovely spot and the host was friendly, but I won't bother again.

Turned up before they opened, but they welcomed me in. Had a delicious steak and chips and a few beers, all were fantastic. Would fully recommend. Say hello to Daphenie the Labrador for me!

We went mainly because of the wine menu , there was a brilliant choice . On arrival we were shown to our table in the garden , it was last august and an anniversary meal . I had a glass of champagne whilst looking at the menu and making choices . Our starters arrived before we had ordered the wine... More

Good food, service & wine.. Very sophisticated little place. A little bit pricey, but the service and quality is reflected in this..

Although the restaurant was fully booked on Valentine's day for dinner, the owner offered me to have a meal at the bar. Very kind ! Food (sole) was very good. I'll come back.

Excellent wine list. Menu is quite sophisticated, so not the place for a quick bite. Service is good - owner operated.
