Very characterful old English pub with good drinks selection and very friendly down-to-earth staff. The food was bloody amazing. Even the add-on spuds and veg were impressive. Not a bad idea to book a table ahead as it's a small interior and rightly popular at mealtimes. Tip: the standard meals are huge, so the "small portion" options are both substantial... More

The village of Hartington is one of those surprising places that you can only find in the UK. Seemingly, in the middle of no where is this beautiful, apparently quite sizeable, stone village of some antiquity. Facing onto the main Square is the Devonshire Arms, a slightly more utilitarian hostelry than might have been expected. Having said that it provided... More

I had a light lunch ordering the soup of the day and some chicken goujons. The food was amazing, especially the soup. The staff was very accommodating since I'm an American and unfamiliar with a few English terms. Very homelike atmosphere with a nice fireplace.

Been visiting this pub lately just for a couple of drinks. It's a three quarter hour drive for us and well worth it. Then we visited for an evening meal. Called to book and got a helpful suggestion to come half an hour earlier than the time i requested due to a large party booked in at that time. So... More

We were advised by our hosts to book a meal at this restaurant during our stay. I am glad we did, as when we entered the bar was full. A friendly greeting was given by the staff. The beer (Black sheep) was good, and I enjoyed a couple of pints. The food was of good tasty quality and presented well,... More

nice pub in the village but not selling the local ales which is a shame, as it's a great position for walking, biking and many more activities.

We dined at the Devonshire Arms on our last night in the Peak district. The pub is quite pub-like with a very friendly atmosphere and excellent food. There were quite a lot of sociable "locals" also eating/drinking in the pub. The food was excellent value for money - substantial & simply presented. If we'd found this pub on our first... More

We ate in this restaurant last week during our stay in Hartington and had to book in advance as it gets very busy most evenings. The food was very good as was the choice. They have smaller portions on some dishes at less than £9 and these are still large enough for the average diner. Most normal main courses cost... More
