Superb food and service !

We have eaten here three times whilst staying in Castiglion including both lunch and dinner servings. The food is fabulous and the staff were exceptionally welcoming. The steaks are simply to die for - fabulous as a showpiece and equally as tasty - cooked to perfection. The team were attentive and looked after us in every way - initially we dined as a large group, then as a couple then as a family and each tome the service was excellent. Don't visit Castiglion Fiorentino and miss this place. it was recommended to us by our villa owner and did not dissapoint.

Excellent restaurant

Local in the center of Castiglion Fiorentino, availability of a large car park 5 minutes walk away. Cozy room with exposed grill, welcoming and helpful staff despite not having booked, service in line with the style of the restaurant. You eat according to the best Chiana cuisine, a well-stocked cellar and certainly affordable prices. Definitely honest price for what you ate and drank.

Well Deserved Reputation for Best Steak Florentine in the Region

This has a reputation as being as having the finest Florentine Steak in the region and this is well deserved. We had a T-bone steak done “medium red” to perfection. Reservations are necessary - we had made ours at 730pm but by an hour after that the place was packed, predominately with locals. A great evening which we will be repeating very soon.

Completely wrong cooking!

We had dinner at this restaurant after reading the many enthusiastic reviews. We went specifically to eat a proper Florentine steak. We ask for a steak weighing approximately 1 kg and when he brings it to the table he tells us that it was 1.5 kg and if it was fine. We said yes, that certainly wasn't the problem, we understand that the cut cannot always be very precise. The surprise came when they brought it to the table. Meat too overcooked, only the end part was rare. To which we pointed this out to the restaurateur before even tasting it and he replied that this is the color of the meat and that if they had cooked it less it would have arrived cold in the centre. It was clear that he was trying to make light of it, so much so that he came back again to ask how it was going and we reiterated once again that it was overcooked. In the end, a good restaurateur would have redone the meat, an average restaurateur would have at least applied a large discount, a terrible restaurateur like this one made us pay a good 67.5 euros... Never again!!!

About to try for the first time a restaurant that I had been told well about, from a culinary point of view the experience turned out to be more than decent. Many and delicious navels, which I strongly recommend for quality and quantity; both the steak and the fillet are excellent, among the strong points of the menu; the price was right, in line with how much and above all how we ate. But, apart from this, we must also consider the "inappropriate" service, not so much from the waiters - indeed cordially kind and helpful -, but rather from the attitude of the one who I believe is the owner, brazen in taking on excessive confidence. When you request a different cooking of the meat, there may be reasons of taste - and so it is, as the saying teaches - or even personal and delicate reasons: investigating a request further is always unpleasant, not to say embarrassing, because it means entering into detail of issues that should not concern. Then making the situation worse with jokes at the time of service doesn't help: naivety is followed by malice. A shame that undermines but does not erase, however, the excellent dinner; even if, humanly speaking, the error remains...

Professionalism to be improved!!

It's not the first time I've come to this restaurant to eat (maybe this is the last) There are two factors to take into consideration when you have a high level restaurant 1* the friendliness 2* a grill the cooking of the meat. We took an appetizer for three (there were 5 of us at the table) since we didn't want to exaggerate to enjoy the meat and as a surprise as a second course, SURPRISE it was for three (3 slices of salami 3 artichokes 3 in all the appetizer that arrived) in my opinion seems a bit poor! Cooking: when we placed the order and chose the grilled fillet each of us chose the doneness (we were told not to worry, they would take care of it) here it is subjective and personal who wants it medium rare or well done therefore the customer Not the waiter or manager has the final say! My choice was rare but in the end it arrived medium rare! That's no good !! I repeat, the customer always has the last word since he pays quite a bit!! Second point two fillets were chosen with green pepper (and was asked if they were green peppercorns or green pepper sauce) answer grains!! Good and a nice green pepper sauce arrived that you couldn't even see the fillet from how much sauce was on it!! I won't go any further... Last point, friendliness: Insufficient perhaps staff with little experience or perhaps desire to do 0, after choosing a good bottle of wine we decided to take another one, from what I know :-) normally when a bottle is opened we change glasses and try the bottle as soon as it is uncorked (how do you say it?? It tastes like cork) instead in this restaurant and much simpler it arrives opens the bottle (I remember a quite important bottle) takes it from the neck of the bottle hits it on the table and says TO YOU!!!! Like in the saloons of the far west!!! I could also say about the coffee, simple order of correct sambuca coffee and it arrived smoothly, when I complained I was brought a separate sambuca, I complained again they took what was in front of me and the coffee was brought back to me in a rude and rude way correct sambuca practically cold! The restaurant inside was practically empty, it was only on the terrace that there were a few customers so I don't think they were stressed! I hope that this review is taken as constructive and that they improve the quality of the service and that they leave the customer free choice for cooking meat!

The real Tuscany ....

We are in Castiglion Fiorentino, inside the walls of a beautiful village. We find a square that seems designed for how beautiful it is; here stands a delightful terrace where Marco, authentic Tuscan innkeeper, handles chianina steaks of about 2 kg average, carefully selected and cooked with great skill. Marco accompanies us along with his excellent staff throughout the beautiful dinner and tells us a lot about his Tuscany: panzanella to bissare, salami, capocollo with fantastic fennel and a Tuscan cheese from the mountains, unforgettable. Vegetables, baked potatoes and final cantucci fresh and “souped” in vin santo. Nice wine list; we choose a very interesting rose. If level meat you want to eat, you have found the place for you!!

Let's start with the positive things. Really excellent service, speed of delivery and excellent organisation. The strong point is the meat but... only the Florentine steak. We are there at the top, really good, not very tender but really excellent..and the black crostini..good like that, there are few of them now.. The sore points are the rest... strips of chianina that are really hard, escalope, no big deal... tasteless desserts... a few years ago the level was higher. Another sore point. Cover charge 3 euros...we're exaggerating...3 euros are for a luxury restaurant...for the rest it still remains a point of reference in the area

For twenty years in Cortona I had heard good things about this place and finally the opportunity arrived. Rustic and elegant location with a splendid grill in sight. The courteous and discreet staff brought us pici al ragù, tagliatelle, cantucci and vin santo, half a glass of wine. I had full confirmation of my expectations. Reference pici cooked al dente with light and tasty ragù. I tasted the tagliatelle: perfect cooking, even if it didn't leave a drop when rare, very soft. Extraordinary Cantucci in a soft version with well-flavoured vin santo. Excellent house wine, full-bodied and genuine. Fair price. Top Muzzicone!

Fantastic food. The most incredible steaks. Also I’d a starter of gnocchi which was hands down the finest pasta I have ever eaten. The staff were very friendly and accommodated our family without a booking without a problem. Lovely setting in an outside space in a little market square. Would highly recommend.

Typical trottoria located in the center of the town, kind and attentive staff. The food is excellent, the first courses are excellent, I really appreciated the navels, the meat is simply sublime, the fillet melts in your mouth and the cut is spectacular. Low prices in relation to what is offered. Very popular place, reservations are absolutely necessary.

We stayed in Castiglion Fiorentino for 2 weeks and went here twice! Service was very friendly. Steaks and pasta were wonderful! Loved that we got to see our steak before it was cooked. Our party of 10 couldn't agree on a favorite pasta - they were all delicious! Prices are very reasonable and the house wine quite good.

All very good, local dishes very well cooked. Nice, rustic restaurant, with a beautiful exposed grill. We ate very well, the quality of the raw materials is very high and everything is cooked in a genuine way. Friendly staff and good value for money.

We happened upon it by chance while we were taking a tour of Castiglion Fiorentino before leaving again, we ate outside and it was wonderful! We took the pici with ragù, something amazing, super seasoned and al dente pasta, then sliced which was seasoned with pepper and rosemary, it melted in your mouth and grilled potatoes! All very good!
