Heard lots of recomendations about the pub so decided to try. Great choice. Specialising in fish we were not disappointed. We chose Plaice and rock eel and they were delicious. Desserts were good as well.

A last minute decision to pop in for lunch after a walk in Hatfield Forest with the dog, it was rather sunny, so did not want to leave the dog in the car, but upon asking he was allowed in the bar area, so we tucked ourselves in a cosy corner. I nearly always eat the same dish here, the... More
Took the family here for Sunday lunch; our second visit and will not be our last. The people were so friendly and welcoming, the service was excellent and the food was lovely. The dessert menu in particular is highly recommended! If you like a quiet old fashioned pub/restaurant - no big screens or sport - then this is the place.... More
A warm atmosphere in this Olde Worlde pub restaurant with tasteful modern editions. Friendly reception and efficient and helpful service - e.g. No problem making minor amendments to the set dish. High quality food with their speciality of fresh fish giving a wide choice. But the menu also includes half a dozen meat courses as an alternative. All good! Adequate... More
Visited with my partner for an evening drink, and then had to eat as the food looked gorgeous! We were not disappointed, choosing the chicken in mushroom sauce and braised lamb. We have eaten here a few times and are never disappointed! A passing customer saw my meal and asked if I recommended it, which I did. I think she... More
Really good pub food. Consistently good too. We had steak & ale pie and steak & kidney pudding this visit. Delicious and accompanied by well cooked veg. Sadly we didn't have room for dessert which we know from previous visits are delicious. You need to book. Noticed some comments about stark decor. I don't agree with that, find it a... More
The welcome was a bit chilly but we hadn't booked and we had a child with us so that was two good reasons for a less than fulsome hallo. After that it was all systems go. The food was excellent. Three of us had the traditional pub meat pie which was advertised with a proper pastry top and we all... More

Traditional pub with modern restaurant attached Service behind the bar and at the table relaxed and friendly. Restaurant well presented but lacks a relaxed atmosphere probably due to the bright overhead 70's lighting and the stark straight lines everywhere. Perhaps wall or low level lighting would contribute to softening that. Food, they do not provide an appetiser, simply a main... More
I went with a friend who used to run it as a pub before she retired. The owners always greet her with enthusiasm! The food is excellent, properly home cooked and professional at the same time. Garlic Prawns were delicious. My friend had plaice and said that was superb. Desserts are large, home made and a must.
