This is such a lovely little village pub. The family who run it are dedicated and passionate about their work. Their food is excellent, their service is impeccable and the whole place has a brilliant vibe. My husband and I will be back with friends and family for sure!

Not withstanding the slightly unfriendly and rather stereotypical locals stood at the bar who stared at us as strangers when we enteted, it was a very nice lunch. The staff were friendly and the food from the Sunday lunch menu was all delicious . Between us we had the roast beef, lamb shank and souvlaki chicken. The puddings looked great... More

The friend and I who travelled to England and Wales together chose the Stag's Head for our first night's stay because we were attracted by the age and thatched roof. The pub is small, with only 2 rooms, to let and is family owned and operated. We stayed in the room called the Swallow's Nest which had been configured as... More

Booked a party of 15 for a Christmas Celebration. 3 cancelled at the very last minute and Faith was unfazed and calm about this. We were offered a really good menu choice, and everyone was very pleased with their choice. I was the only one who chose a nut roast....and I'm so glad I chose it; delicious, tomatoey, cinnamony, pumpkin... More

This pub is in a pretty Oxfordshire village about 6 miles out of Banbury. The owner was very welcoming and took us to our table. He is from Greece and it is a family run business and they were all extremely nice people. We were there for our daughter's birthday. We had 2 sharing platters of fish and Meze and... More

We decided to go to the F1 at Silverstone this year, but found that even 8 months in advance all the hotels in the area were either sold out or ridiculously priced! We started searching other options like self catering and B&Bs, and found The Stags Head! We stayed in the Swallows Nest for 2 nights, which is a room... More

We were lucky enough to be visiting family in the beautiful village of Swalcliffe which coincided with the local pub's Greek night. The pub/restaurant is family run by a Greek-English couple supported by their two sons. On the last Saturday of the month they host their Greek night a feast of authentic Greek food served Meze style, the menu included,... More

What could be better on a warm sunny day than a Greek taverna-style lunch in the garden of an Oxfordshire village pub with a view of the village church spire over the thatched roof and meadows on the other side, all overseen by a native Corfiot? Not much from our experience.

We stayed in the village and the Stags Head was our (only) local. We ate in there several times during our holiday and the owner and his family made us feel very welcome. The beer was good (but not all to my taste) and the food was excellent. Please stray from the traditional British menu and have some of the... More

My wife and I stayed here for a week in August. We had high expectations based on previous reviews, and we were not disappointed. Arriving at lunchtime, we sampled the Sunday lunch, which was excellent. The landlord clearly takes care of the beer they serve. Faith and Stamatis were excellent hosts, and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts served... More
