We went into the tearoom after a freezing cold walk on the prom. The place was warm, friendly and very welcoming. The cream tea was amazing. Very quirky inside.

We had heard good reports about the Barge Tearooms and seeking refuge from bitterly cold easterly winds were not disappointed. A friendly welcome, lovely décor and a wonderful choice of generously sized cakes. A very good range of vegan options. We will return.

This is the second time we have visited these lovely tea rooms, it was a very cold day last Sunday and we decided to have lunch on the boat. We had a delicious tomato and basil soup which was homemade with delicious bread. The setting...More

Charming tearoom inside a genuine old Thames Barge. Friendly staff. Plenty of room upstairs below decks and on deck if it is warm enough. Light lunches and cakes as well as tea and coffee etc. available. Available to hire for private functions too.

We always stopped here in winter months after our Maldon walk and wished the barge was open in the summer. Now our wish is fulfilled with all the year round catering. The pepper and carrot soup today was delicious and my husband loved his panini....More

Very nice views over the estuary and the moored barges. The food is excellent (especially the cake) and fair to middling in price. Bonus they take cards as I had little cash!

Step aboard Sailing Barge Hydrogen on Maldon's Hythe Quay and enjoy a tearoom experience whilst supporting Cooks Barge Yard and this historic vessel. Hydrogen was built in 1906 as a cargo carrier and joined a fleet that once numbered over 2,000 strong. Today she earns her keep as a National Historic Ship, offering sailing cruises from Maldon and Ipswich. Over the winter months, she will be open as an unusual tearoom, serving lovely homemade food supplied by Maldon businesses. Whilst on board you can learn more about the Hydrogen and also Cooks Barge Yard on the Quay, established in 1894 and still used for barge repairs today. Profits from the tearoom will go back to helping maintain the Hydrogen and keeping her afloat and in good condition for the future.
