Having read the reviews on here a friend and I decided to stop her for a drink and maybe a cake or something to eat . We sat outside and waited for over 5 minutes and when no one came out to take our order...my friend went inside and ordered. My friend said that the cakes didn’t look that great but if I wanted one to go in and have a look , well I have to say I agreed with her the cakes didn’t look that great so we just had a cup of tea and a smoothie. Well to tell you the truth I couldn’t have told you what was in the smoothie , I was expecting something thick and lush instead I had a watery concoction that I knew probably contained watermelon by the colour of. We saw nothing of the friendly service mentioned in other reviews on here, in fact the young man behind the counter was very sullen. I am sorry but we won’t be going back.More

Visited several times during our holiday for breakfast and lunch. Made to feel very welcome, had fabulous coffee. Limited menu but fresh and home made. Marjoleine has the magic touch to create a friendly cosy ambience where all are made to feel at home.

Thank you for leaving your review. A great compliment to read that you felt at home, it is the ambiance I hoped to be able to create, a place away from home. I do hope to see you again someday! Marjoleine

The multilingual staff always go the extra mile with their friendly service. They are well-known local characters. Bob has a wonderful dry sense of humour. The home-made food is always freshly made. As is usual out here well-behaved dogs are always welcome provided they tuck...their paws out of the way.More

We have now returned to Gaillard Gourmand on several occasions taking friends with us on a number of those occasions. The quality remains very high and we have recently eaten some of the different varieties of quiche on offer along with the excellent, and varied,...salad as well as Bob's home made bread. This makes for a delicious and filling lunch but we still make room to enjoy our choice from the excellent cakes and some of the best coffee you will find anywhere. Our hosts continue to offer a warm welcome and do all they can to ensure we enjoy our visit. Again I would say well worth a visit if you are in the area!More

Thank you Paul. We will miss your company and our weekly talks! Can't wait to see you back in France and perhaps surprise you with new ideas or just with apple pie!

We stopped by for a light lunch. The dish of the day, a vegetable pie with salad, sounded like the perfect solution. The pie, however, was like cardboard, very dried out from sitting in the oven. Carrot cake for dessert was good, although not exceptional....Very refreshing, homemade iced tea. Prices are reasonable and the service is very friendly.More

At Gaillard Gourmand you'll feel at home straight away. A cozy tea room that serves a good selection of pukka teas, excellent coffee and a variety of home made cakes by Marjolein. Or try the quiche and salad for a light lunch, with freshly baked...bread by Bob. Gaillard Gourmand offers an excellent mix between Dutch (don't forget to try the apple pie or boterkoek), French and English and is a perfect place to start your day with a cuppa and the news or a good book. The roof terrace at the back is the perfect Zen place!More

In my traveling experience, the local cafe is the best way to get a feel for a place. A visit to Gaillard Gourmand will make you feel welcome, appreciated and wonderfully well fed! Breakfast or Lunch the selection is great and the coffee is good....(There is also a fantastic selection of tea, which they know how to prepare perfectly) Don't miss Bob's bread - famous in town really - and made on the spot. They make an incredible goat cheese and onion chutney grilled sandwich (served with a fantastic green salad) and don't overlook the quiche: made daily from scratch. The carrot cake is also excellent.More

Marjolein Gaillard's new café in Excideuil is fantastic! Perfect coffee, lovely Dutch-inspired pastries, cupcakes, cakes and tortes. Watch Bob, Marjolein's congenial and always courteous sidekick, make all the delicious breads (in gluten-free, too!) by hand...no machines! Try a lite lunch of home-made soups, quiches, salads...and toasted sandwiches...all delicious and delight for the eye!More

After the sad closure of the Kitsch Kafe we were delighted to find Marjolein and our old friend Bob just a few yards down the road in their fabulous new café/restaurant. We had visited Kitsch many times over recent years and it is great to...see this little place continue that good work and actually improve on it. The coffee and various cakes are just delicious with pleasant surroundings (including a small sun terrace). We are looking forward to even more improvements as they look to extend into other areas within the building. The way you are welcomed makes you feel at home and relaxed. All in all a very enjoyable experience and more than well worth a visit. Take the chance to sample the carrot cake, apple dessert and other delights and you won't be disappointed.More
