Following our visit and great experience last month. Still ticks all those boxes. Generous helpings, on this occasion delicious beef cheek stew with plenty of veg. One of our group had the pub burger but he found it dry and overcooked. I can only rate...on my own experience. 5 star. Very friendly locals' pub in cozy bar with sofas.More

When we first came to this pub it was lunchtime, very quiet and not sure about the decor. However, we had one of the best meals we have had in a long time. The service was excellent and we would definitely return.

Lovely evening spent here with middle son! Had a wonderful meal, the boys had linguine and I had the scampi, which I'd been hankering after all day! Absolutely gorgeous food, cooked to perfection, plenty of it! The fire was lit as it was a bit...of a chilly day and the whole atmosphere was warm, friendly, inviting, with superb food! Couldn't have asked for more! Thank you xxMore

Booked the whole restaurant to celebrate my 50th with a large group of friends. We all ate together and Sam did an incredible job orchestrating 28 main courses coming out of the highest quality. The whole evening was a fantastic success and can’t recommend The...Artichoke highly enough. Thanks Sam for everything you didMore

We visited the Artichoke again with my husband's daughter visiting from Australia. She had the burger which was terrific and abundant. My husband had the new chicken, leek and mushroom pie, again really great. But me!!! I had the linguine appetizer but as a mains....It was wild mushroom with truffle oil. I can only say, what a fabulous meal. Really wonderful. The service was excellent despite the fact of their gas oven being on the blink. We waited a short time, but again, great polite service.More

Local pub for local people. Was initially told we couldn’t have booked, but once we said it was by email and we’d had a reply recognition dawned on the barman’s eyes. Barman did then make us very welcome and food was tasty. Service time for...food and the requested bill was a little slow given the busyness.More

We really enjoyed our experience at The Artichoke pub. It is a very quaint thatched roof pub in a beautiful setting. The service was very friendly and meals were all freshly cooked. It was worth the wait for the food, all cooked by the owner,...Sam. We actually visited twice; once as a couples eve and one with my parent in laws and baby. I had the most delicious fish pie; well presented and very tasty! I tried the lamb burger the following day which was massive! It was served with feta cheese and a tasty tzasiki sauce all inside a sourdough bun; good value for money. A pleasant experience with a slower pace of life; we liked this!More

This is an interesting place - a classic Dartmoor thatched inn in narrow Devon lanes. On one side it is clearly a Devon local's pub, on the other it has a well ordered restaurant that goes beyond pub grub. The food, service and presentation are...excellent, without being pretentious. A good menu - with a wide variety of local food on offer. The name of the inn is unusual. Might go back to early medieval times when the inn could have been a mustering point for would be crusaders to Jerusalem. And don't be put off by narrow lanes. There's a good car park nearby.More
