We called into the workmanship cafe on the way from Auckland to Taupo. We have been living oversea for over 10 years & wondered if it was still there. It certainly is in all it's glory. Sid has been there 23 years & he is the life & soul of the cafe. He seems to know everyone & takes the... More

If you're going to Hobbiton or Matamata in general, do yourself a favor and have a meal here. The owner, Sid Workman, is by far the most amazing restaurant owner. He greeted us with a huge smile and treated us like family. We had dinner and lunch the next day there. Both meals were fantastic. At the end of our... More

On the way to the Hobbiton tour, we stopped in Matamata for a bite to eat. The place was overrun with people who had the same idea, and we were turned away from restaurants for not having a reservation. However, the owner of Workman's went above and beyond to squeeze us in, which we really appreciated. We had tasty comfort... More

I was by myself in town so wanted something easy. It was quite a busy night for a Wednesday, so they sat me at the bar which was fine by me, the bar was quiet and the restaurant was quite noisy. I had a fillet steak with a garlic sauce which was perfect, great potato bake with it. The steak... More

Outstanding friendly service, quirky and interesting decor and the food is absolutely top class. The steaks are aged, perfectly cooked and would satisfy the biggest appetite

Called in for a coffee heading home from up north. Very warm welcome, good coffee & very good service. Loved the display of old transistor radios. Remembered a few from my childhood. Easy to recommend.

Doesn't really look like much, but the food and the service were wonderful! Good value, great food, well worth the stop!

Doesn't look like much in the outside but the good is fantastic! The chicken Sammie was almost gourmet and the salads are great. We tried redoubt and osteria and workmans by far had the best food!

The interior of this restaurant is dark and uninspiring. Service was ok . We had lunch and my prawns with pasta was very average and not very tasty.

Thank Janette G

Workman's café is a fun friendly environment that happily serves great coffee and fresh local food five days and nights a week, we take pride in what we do and how we present ourselves. Great comfy chairs, great sounds, fab ambiance, and good looking staff all help to provide an experience we hope you will enjoy . Cheers Syd
