We were visiting Furano recently, and a friend recommended that we have dinner in this restaurant, La Chemin, while we were staying there for our ski holiday
It really is a hidden gem! It's a beautiful little French restaurant that seats about 40, has a pot belly stove in the center of the restaurant and serves well presented dishes and has a very local family run feel to it.
We chose the set menu and ordered a few à la carte dishes for the kids
They were a little busy when we arrived night so service was a little slow, but that was no great problem for us
Appetizers were a mix of small dishes, pickles and slices of ham.
The clear winner for the main course was the beef cheeks, cooked to perfection so they basically fell apart in your mouth with a beautiful demi glace sauce. I ordered the venison and it was also very tasty and cooked to perfection.
Wine was also recommended and served by the chef, keeping him extra busy, but this added to the charm of the restaurant.
Definitely want to return when we’re back in Furano for skiing!!

We had a beautiful meal in this restaurant. Each course was beautifully presented and prepared using local produce, much of which came from the chef's garden. The owner took time to explain each of the dishes to us and this personal touch really helped to make the whole evening a lovely experience. With advance notice, he adapated his menu to prepare a wonderful vegetarian meal. It he food was all amazing, it is impossible to pick out a highlight, This has been the best meal that we have eaten over the last few weeks during our stay in Japan. If you get the chance whilst in Furano, this should not be missed. Mike and Helen, Scotland.

Hands down the best restaurant in Furano. Amazing food and amazing wine. Have visited 3 times over 2 years. The chef is trained in France, cures his own prosciutto and his crème brûlée is crazy good

This is obviously a French restaurant IN Japan. And it is worth every cent. Delicate flavours in a well balanced menu, using local produce but with French culinary techniques creating a fusion of mouth watering delights.

Beautiful food and accommodating staff. Amazing french food. We had the 3,800 yen set dinner menu in January 23. It was a beautiful meal.

My family really enjoyed Le Chemin.
The food is presented perfectly with local ingredients and served in an unhurried manner.

We had high hopes for this restaurant based on reviews and a recommendation. We got seated for the 7:30 dinner on New Year’s Eve and it is currently 9:30 and we have had 3 appetizers and no main course. The food is good - I would rate it a 4.2 out of 5, but the wait really makes me want to rate it a 2 (very small courses to boot) and the wine is terrible. I read reviews of there being some amazing wine selections but I have had three choices: a house wine, a local wine and a carafe of unknown. I had to ask for water refills and extra bread. I don’t think it’s the wait staff’s fault at all because there seems to be only 3 people working for a mostly full restaurant. Dear owner, you messed up. Staff your restaurant! These poor people are working hard at the expense of your customers. We are paying 5,000 per person which is outrageous for this lack of service and how long we’re been here. We would have gone for ramen....

If you'd like a more traditional European-style dining experience with great wine, this is the place to come. This chef, trained in a Michelan starred Champagne restaurant in France makes amazing food, served in proper courses and a non-hurried fashion, as dining should be. The food is EXCELLENT, and after tiring of sake and sochu in other restaurants, it was nice to find some great wines available here as well. We loved it so much, we went back twice!

The wine list is worth the visit alone. Not all wines are listed so get to know your host. House cured ham and wagyu beef steak is a must. The chef owner is the highlight of the restaurant. Get the wagyu steak.

Excellent fresh French cuisine for an early New Year’s Eve dinner. Glad we chose to make reservations and come early as they closed by 8:30 on New Year’s Eve. Surprised how many Furano restaurants were closed on the holiday. Bistro Le Chemin was a welcomed break from traditional Japanese fare. Freshly prepared from appetizers to dessert. Delicious quiche of the day, fresh green salad, vegetable soup with authentic French bread. Our main dishes of Lamb and Venison were excellent. We finished with a Creme Brûlée with Hojicha Ice Cream. Many other options made it hard to choose.

I had lunch here today. As it is December 2, it is definitely the off-season. I opted for the fixed price menu and I couldn't have been happier. The appetizer dish included salad greens, pate', a pickled onion and quiche. I then chose the pumpkin soup, but they also offered a vegetable soup. I loved the soup. I chose the roast duck as an entree' and it came with greens, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, and potatoes. The duck practically melted in my mouth and each of the vegetables was cooked individually to perfection. Then there was the dessert. I chose the tart which turned out to be pear. It came with ice cream and some kind of delicious pastry. Coffee was also included. At about $25USD, it wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny (yen). The portions were not large, but with so many items, it was plenty to satisfy me. Every single item was delicious.

We decided on a whim to take a break from Japanese food for one evening during our one week stay in Hokkaido. Super happy we booked Bistro Le Chemin. We ordered the mixed salad, regional olives and pork terrine. The salad was a generous portion of delicious local vegetables and leaves. Super fresh. The pork terrine was simply outstanding. Clearly home-made and accompanied by some pickles and mustard. The main courses were lamb and duck both wonderful. The sauces were rich and beautifully balanced. Overall food 9 out of 10. The team was busy and the chefs combined service and cooking. We finished off with a homemade blueberry shortbread tart loaded with local Hokkaido blueberries, which were not too sweet and perfectly ripe. Highly recommended for a great, really delicious meal in simple rustic surroundings. If I lived in Furano, we would be regulars.

Relaxed atmosphere and beautifully cooked french food in a bistro style restaurant. I had the set menu which was good value. Limited wine choices but good beer. All in a very pleasant and relaxed evening.

My family & I have just enjoyed an exquisite lunch at Bistro Le Chemin. Great value for money & beautifully presented delicious cuisine. This has to be on your list for lunch/dinner if visiting Furano.
