We made a reservation for a Saturday evening on that day and were able to get a table next to the beach/ water. We both enjoyed our respective mains of Beef Medallions and Fisherman's Catch of the Day - swordfish. The creme brulee's come in three separate dishes - never seen that before, apart from here and are very tasty but may be a bit rich?
The wine and coffees were good and we enjoyed the ambience and the views of the beach and across the water. The bill came to BD$312.75 including a 10% service charge - say ÂŁ130 so expensive imho even by Barbados standards.
There is ample off street parking but it will probably cost you BD$20 although we were able to park free in the small car park opposite. We enjoyed our visit but once here is probably enough on a 10 day stay.

We have eaten here at night a few times in the past however on this visit we went at Sunday lunch time.
Please note that they are only open for lunch on a Saturday and Sunday.
There is plenty of choice on the lunch menu at a reasonable price.
Originally we wanted the fish cutter but this was sold out so we opted for the beef burger and the chicken cutter. Both of which were of a good quality and really tasty.
The service was slow however this was not an issue as you could enjoy the view.
One slight annoyance was that the waitress was constantly asking if everything was ok which she only needed to do once.
The Banks lager here is one of the most expensive places on the gap at 8bd for 1.
It is worth a visit just for the view.

A very nice spot at the entrance to St Lawrence Gap. The food was excellent and the ambience and scenery were splendid. Although they mis-ordered my dish resulting in me having the best Mahi Mahi I ever had so I am grateful for that error and the restauarant manager kindly provided some consideration on the bill.
Make a reservation if you want a seat overlooking the ocean.

Very popular place with tables at sea front balconies. We were lucky to get a table without a reservation (on a Monday)
Service was somewhat slow. Those at our neighbor table had enough when starters had not arrived after 45 minutes
Catch of the day was fantastic, cooked to perfection. The pizza, however, was an awful soggy mess, so pizza lovers should order something else

We went there today for lunch, after waiting 10-15 min to be seated at a table, we ordered the drinks and the food. After another 20-30 min we didn’t even get the water so we decided to leave.
The view though is great, the restaurant looks good and the food at the other tables also looked good.
If you decide to go there you should fill yourself with patience.

What started out to be a great celebration for the matriarch of our family turned out to be a disappointing evening. My party and I are disappointed by the ridiculously long wait time for food (an hour and a half), bland food when it actually arrived (literally no taste) and an extremely rude bartender who literally came to our table and insisted a drink was sent when it wasn't (later verified by our waitress). The manager even had the audacity to tell us the mixup with the order was at us. I will not be recommending Castaways to anyone I know and neither will I be returning. Some business need to do better to improve their level of customer service.

dear reader,
please note that the above customer was never 'accused of drinking a drink that was never sent to the table.'' this statement (along with the majority of the statements made in this review) are misleading and exaggerated. Their dissatisfaction stemmed from being told that if they order additional shots of alcohol to be mixed with their drinks, they are charged for the added alcohol consumed.
the rest of the review is based on the annoyed customer who fails to grasp the basic understanding that they are meant to pay for any additional order of products sold at the establishment in which they request.
the same table has complained twice on this forum.

We booked Castawys because of the location and wanting to get a sea view seat plus a recommendation from friends .My husband and myself both choose a fish dish. We both agreed the meal was ok but had eaten better cooked fish elsewhere. After our plates were cleared away it was like we were then forgotten, 3 members of staff stood at the front desk chatting, another was relaying tables. I eventually went and asked if it was possible to see a dessert menu. I choose a dessert (which was lovely) my husband a coffee to have while I ate my dessert. We had to ask for the coffee in the end it had been forgotten. Expensive meal for the food and service we had. Reading all the other reviews I just think we were unlucky that night.

We had looked forward to eating here but oh what a disappointment!
Location is nice, decor and layout very nice- we had upper balcony table which was ideal.
Had rum punch pre dinner cocktails just as our starters arrived!
Mains were not great, mine was just warm, not hot/fresh...and not anything special for the price, 60 bajan dollars.
The food was very very average and certainly didnt justify the price tag.
We felt rushed after literally finishing our mains, and with half a bottle of wine left we were asked if we wanted the bill!...no pud for us then.
Overall there are far better places to eat at half the cost...I wouldnt visit again.

Visited recently, walked in to find 3 members of staff talking near the entrance I had to say hello first to be acknowledged with only one of the team to say hello back. Sat down and enquired if we were able to pay our bill separately as there was a large group of us. The waitress said she would ask for us and returned with a “no that’s not possible”
Once we had our meal and received the bill we worked it out and paid for what we had, to then be told a couple of minutes later which we were confused about as we’d checked it several times. This took almost an hour to get sorted, turns out a member of staff hadn’t put the right service charge on the bill so it didn’t match the total with the till. You could tell nobody wanted to take the blame. We were asked by a member of staff why didn’t we ask to pay our bill separately, to which we replied we did. Turns out the waitress we had asked actually hadn’t bothered to check with anyone, just walked off and came back instead with the answer no.
Absolutely no apology from one member of staff about having to wait for so long for them to work out why the bill wasn’t right and also no apology for getting the bill wrong. I would have been a lot more understanding if they were honest about the mistake from the start, we all make them!
Unfortunately this ruined our evening as we had planned to go off from drinks but as we had to wait almost an hour to get the bill sorted it dampened our spirits so ended up leaving the gap early instead.
Won’t be visiting here in the future.

Dear Trip Advisor community and reviewer... We issue one bill per table to avoid situations like this especially with larger groups and it is company policy and splitting the bill for so many at a table has proven to have it's issues.. It is a pretty common practice and we state this clearly on all of our menus for all to see and have from day one.... The service charge is calculate automatically buy the POS so the staff member wouldn't have worked this out. What happens is when the bill is split, many don't divide and add in the service charge and taxes and usually someone is left to pay more than what their share is... More reason we state one bill per table as when that is not done these issues arise then we get the blame. Splitting the bill also takes up a lot more time which you were unsatisfied with and this we know hence why it is not policy and it is not as simple as one might think .....So the one bill per table is designed to keep the service speed up when splitting it will always slow down the bill to table time, not just here but anywhere. We will have a manager meeting today to address our policy so that customers are further aware our our procedures with regards to this. We are personally sorry the bill was split as if not all of this would have been avoided. Sorry you won;t be back but the island is littered with other restaurant that I'm sure would appreciate your patronage.. Cheers and enjoy.

We visited this restaurant as a family of 15 for a birthday for my brother our table was at 8:30pm.
This restaurant had many flaws firstly the manager which in my opinion was the rudest person I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with, secondly we waited an hour and a half for cold Kids pizzas and undercooked calamari. When we complained the staff just removed the plate no apology and when confronted with the suggestion of manners simply raised a hand in acknowledgment once again not what’s expected from a paying customer.
At this stage we had decided we will pay for our drinks and the inedible food at this point the manager came into her own and blamed us for booking a late table and then suggested we leave with that we left.
If you are considering this as a restaurant for dinner I would seriously consider other options as Barbados offers many great restaurants with the same iconic view.

The menu is very limited and the quality of the food mediocre. The staff were good and that is why we didn't get up and walk out. The calamari was greasy and tasted like old oil. And then the catch of the day was chewy like a quickly defrosted piece of old fish. After I told the waiter how I felt he asked if I'd like to speak to the manager who apparently is the owner. I declined because I could not see any point. She came over eventually and asked if there was a problem and I just said no.
When you've eaten at Harlequin done the road from this place you can't accept the bad choices, quality and value of this place.

I love all the small bites and the pizzas. My husband usually get one of the dish with fish and we share on of their dessert. Our favorite is definitely the Salted caramel chocolate pot. On top of offering great food and good service, Castaways is engaged in the Barbados community. They actively support yogis and skateboarders just to name a few.
I definitely recommend to book a table!

Absolutely wonderful experience. We chose Castaways because of the reviews and the setting... neither one of us had been there before. When we arrived the staff were quite courteous and the food was absolutely great! He had the fish tacos as an appetizer and ribs as a main while I had a lamb appetizer and a fish based main... everything tasted great and the portion sizes were actually very good. The wait time in between meals were also quite impressive, like surprisingly short. The setting was lovely, with a cool yet romantic ambiance.
The highlight of the evening however was the surprise marriage proposal at the end of the dinner. It was beautifully done with the assistance of the staff there. One member even volunteered to capture this aspect of the evening with her photography skills. My Fiance's proposal was truly memorable, and we thank the staff of Castaways for turning a great dinner into the perfect engagement.

We were a little hesitant after booking a table and then seeing the reviews about bad service. However we had a great meal and excellent service. My wife had chicken Thai curry and I had the chicken Parmesan and linguini. Both of these were fresh and hot and my only criticism would be that the linguine had too much of a tomato flavoured sauce for my liking. The meal was a little on the expensive side but apart from these two small points was good and was an enjoyable experience

This restaurant is a bit pricey for want it is. The food however was acceptable on the whole. However I found the waitress to be very sullen and rude. I was poked in the back at one point by her and very upset to be told by two of my guests the same thing had happened to them. I am afraid I will not be returning. I have given this restaurant 3 visits and have decided there are better places to eat on the island for about the same price.
