We stopped en route to Tauranga on a very rainy day, and I'd happily stopped again for lunch or a snack. We enjoyed pies, toasted sandwiches, and the highly recommended jam tart served with cream. The coffee was good, and the service pleasant. There were interesting photos on display about the history of the area.

My wife and I called in for a coffee and cake whilst on the rail trail cycle path. Lovely old building and food was great. I had a fruit cake which was great. Staff friendly and very pleasant surroundings.

An intersting place for the history. Try the passionfuit kisses or raspberry tart. Lots of photos and memorablia from the gold mining era. If you are visiting the gold fields or cycling the trail this is great.

A fantastic place to stop, either on the way somewhere or as a destination. Light lunch and drinks were served quickly and efficiently. A range of tables inside or outside and a lot of historical information on the walls inside. We drove an hour from Tauranga, explored the Karangahake gorge with our Danish, ate at Waikino Station Cafe then drove... More

There aren't many of these types of cafes in NZ, so I highly recommend a stop off. A harem of ladies producing a smorgasbord of top notch home baking set in the historic restored Waikino Station. It made for a great stop off on the Goldfields Railway.

We were on the Rail Trail and stopped here. There was a warm welcome, friendly staff and great food. The food was fresh and the raspberry tart in particular melted in your mouth. The place did well considering how busy it was.

This cool railway station in the Karangahake Gorge has a captive audience so I expected more than a few pies and ice cream to be honest. The platform is really pretty with hanging flower baskets and cute old suitcases so a more full cafe menu - Devonshire teas etc would go down a treat! Service was pretty disinterested also.

Visited twice while travelling the Hauraki Rail Trail and very happy both times. Coffee was good and lunch was even better (especially the Biker Burger)

We rode from Waihi to the gorge, stopping here both ways for refreshments. Not the friendliest service but a nice place to sit and a good selection of food for hungry and thirsty cyclists.
