Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely fantastic both food, cocktails and service. Very nice atmosphere was small and personal. Highly recommend for both the vibe and food.

The vibe is full on.. as soon as we walked in the door. My kids took me here for my birthday. The male waiter was not at all personable. He was running around and seemed stressed. We had to be in at 5 and I...didn’t know but my kids did out by 6.30. The food was presented beautifully but you don’t get much for the large price. And if you are paying $450 for 3 people in an hour and a half you would expect good service don’t you think??? At approximately 6.25 he came and said don’t forget you have to leave at 6.30!! No smile no how was your meals no did you Happy Birthday as we mentioned when we arrived and got a very quick oh Happy Birthday.. he came back and started wiping our table and I said I still have half a beer and he pointed to the bar and with no nicety about it just said you can sit at the bar.. I have been in the hospitality industry for Ofer 40 years and I know basic good service and this waiter had none.. I mentioned to the manager in the way out and she said she would mention something to him..🤔 I wonder if she did🤔 a shame as all the other staff seemed pleasant. And food was good.More

Finding this amazing place with unique character is one thing, enetring it is one other joy for the senses, and consuming its wonderfull delights is just one other high. My daughter took me to tjis place during a recent visit and i have to admit...it was a truly unique experience. The drinks are adapted to the season and foods you consume, the experience of the delicate dishes being served AND consumed is just fantastic. The sharing of dished with tjose you dine with is always pleasant but Etsu ensures you truly enjoy the experience with knowlegable staff and taking their time to explain the experience you are embarking on. Simply a joy for all tge senses. ThanknyouMore

Just the best! We come up from Byron once a month just to eat here, it is our favourite restaurant. Food is always the same in a good way, quality A1 love it all. Izzy has been our waitress the last couple of visits, she...is amazing always remembers us and what we like. We were at Etsu on opening night as at the time lived one street away, & still now make a trip to GC just to come here, it feels like home.it is still our favourite restaurant all these years later a must visit when on the GC. Even better if Izzy is your waitress!More

The only reason this did not get 5 stars was the set seating time of 90 minutes. Just not long enough to enjoy the delicious food. The food was so out of this world and just delicious, The Wagyu beef skewers a standout - just...melted in your mouth. The popcorn bugs another favourite. This restaurant was amazing and we wished we could have stayed longer!More

Dined for a birthday celebration for 4. Food was nice. Quiet expensive compared to other places similar. Best to go for banquet I would think as the share plates weren't really equal servings. Average price $28 per plate. Nice staff. 1.5 hr sitting time.

Chose to dine here after a couple of local recommendations and wasn't disappointed. We are vegan / Vegetarian and rolled out with very full bellies. Do yourself a life favour and order the edamame!! Our waitress was lovely and the place has very cool underground/...hidden vibe to it. The best Japanese I've ever had the pleasure of trying.More

Best ambience, food and overall experience I have had. This restaurant is a must if you are on the Gold Coast. I seriously thought I was in a funky Melbourne / New York restaurant. It’s hidden behind a barn door so if you weren’t looking...for it you won’t find it. Staff were brilliant.More

We had seen Etsu appear on a few traveler videos about the Gold Coast, we were determined to try it out on our trip. Its extremely no descript on the outside, my partner walked right past it before I noticed the trademark lantern by the...door. Inside is very moody and chic, the service was great, our host made recommendations on drinks and food and we had several rounds it was so delicious. It was a bit pricey, but we are glad we made the stop, well worth it!More

Great food and very popular be guided by waitress as we ordered way too much but everything was so tasty. Restaurant is behind white barn doors without signage but once you step inside wow! Modern noisy scene but great food

Can hardly recommend this area. Hard to know if you should call it a bar or a restaurant, but the food was very tasty, cocktails delicious, and service friendly. We tried to go the following night but they were fully booked. Don’t expect to spot...it very easily.More

We booked well ahead as we now realise is a must, but still best was a 5pm sitting. Not to be disappointed, we had a great experience with really good attentive service and the food is sensational and so well presented. I can highly recommend...the miso fish, last time the menu was cod, now miso trout, a must do! We had a beer and nice white wine, but the drinks menu and bar offerings including, I think every popular and top shelf Japanese whisky seems to be available. Quirky fun fit out and an unassuming, almost hidden street facade. A special experience!More
