Back after a break - loved it.

Its been a while since we last came. About a year or so. Was a quite day and no noise from that long high table simply because no one was sitting there. Wish they would get rid of it and arrange the tables without it. So forget that grip and about today's experience. My wife ani I had the soft shell crab slaw and the wok tossed beef with steamed rice. Was beautiful. Our friends shared Mamasan KFC and sweet corn fritters. I had a taste. Again beautiful. Good size servings and in the case of the beef, plenty of sauce to be mopped up with the rice. Great lunch. Will be back soon.

Good meal but hold the water!!!

We chose this restaurant "on spec' as we were looking for a place to eat late. It was crowded and looked like it had a great atmosphere, so we lobbed at the door and were given two seats at the bar looking into the very busy kitchen. The food was very good and arrived in quick time. Prices varied but generally were reasonable. On arrival, we were asked if we wanted water (all restaurants should just provide it, as they do in Europe) and I asked for "chilled tap water". When the bill arrived, we had been charged for still, chilled water from a bottle for the outrageous price of $11. When I challenged this, I was told that the only still water the restaurant provided was bottled. Had I been advised this when I ordered "tap water", I would have given the water a miss and just enjoyed my Peroni beer. This was the only "downer" during an otherwise enjoyable meal.

Staff kindly accommodated 6 of us inside without a booking even grabbing an extra table to fit us. Food was all fantastic. I don’t normally order chicken but it was one of the juiciest chickens I have ever eaten. Flavours of every dish were bang on.

Banquet menu

Was there for birthday. Had banquet menu which was tasteless and generic. Staff were friendly and lovely but was charged for what was obviously tap water at room temperature. We were also charged 5 dollars per person to cut a cake that we had bought for the party. Extremely expensive and would not recommend if you want to have authentic Asian cuisine.

Used to be better….

Has declined over the last few years. Prices have increased yet there’s cutting of costs that are obvious in the dishes. Massaman curry was more like a stew with insipid, almost nonexistent ‘sauce’ - used to be a thick coconut milk sauce (as you’d expect with a massaman). Sauce again was rationed in the slaw. Edamame was well-cooked but the spicy salt was pedestrian. San choy bow and the KFC were as good as they used to be (excellent) - so at least the $ you fork out are worth it for those dishes. Service was very good. There are too many decent restaurants around Broadbeach to Burleigh so while this has been one of the good ones we have chosen over the years, we won’t be running back. There’s a distinct lack of care and love in the majority of the dishes. Treat your well-paying customers like fools and we won’t hang around.

Still good food but service could improve

Previous GC locals who always come back to eat here for the consistently good food and cocktails. We tried the banquet menu this time for the whole table and food did not disappoint. Especially loved the crab ravioli and lamb ribs. A small issue with the ravioli-- there was a piece of paper or plastic in with a piece that I ate. Mentioned it to the staff and showed her the piece I'd put on the plate. No apology or anything. Despite the contaminated dish and the $1k dinner tab we still had to pay for just 2 after dinner espressos. To the mamasan team - we'll still come back for the great food as we have been for many, many years; but it's also the little things that matter and make a difference.

Wow! What an amazing find this was! Make sure you you book and take friends so you can try all the wonderful dishes on offer The ambience, setting and staff were lovely We tried a number of dishes between the 5 of us and everything hit the spot. My only regret is not enough room to try the brownie!

Superb

My partner and I recently had lunch at Mamasan. It was an outstanding experience. The welcome at the door was friendly and the service throughout was highly professional, with a nice light touch. There is also a nice vibe to the restaurant, with a mix a demographic groups happily enjoying their food, with the option of outside tables available. The menu is extensive, as is the wine list. We ordered vegetable san choy bow, duck pancakes, wok fried vegetables and steamed rice. Every course was superb but the duck pancakes were simply perfect: paper thin pancakes, beautifully cooked duck breast meat and an amazing sauce. The side of vegetables was also very unusual: a lot of variety, the pieces small enough to easily eat with chopsticks and a light but flavoursome sauce. We don’t normally drink at lunchtime but the prices were so reasonable that we accompanied the meal with a wonderful petit chablis. We live in Sydney and we would rate this restaurant as good as, or better than, any Asian restaurant in that city.

Great food as usual, service has dropped

Broadbeach locals. Hadn’t been here for a few months so hoped it would be as good, overall, as previous visits. The banquet was great value: generous servings and delicious. The service, however, was not as it has been in the past and not what you would expect at a restaurant of this calibre with the reputation they have. The meals were plonked on the table hastily, my glass was left empty until I asked for another drink, and there was no check mid-meal re how our meals were. The floor staff had an aura of being burnt out. When I paid I was shocked that I’d been (I initially thought) overcharged. The reception guy smugly pointed at a small sign that apparently explained on Sundays there’s a surcharge of 10%. At no time when we arrived and were shown to our table did anyone mention the 10% surcharge on a Sunday; I’d expect that when you’re paying close to $200 for a meal and simply as part of etiquette and service. The problem was the lack of communication upon arrival (& the attitude when I questioned), not necessarily the surcharge (although I do think that’s a bit much for a Sunday). I would go back because the food is so great but Mamasan you need to up your game on the service side; you’re a classy restaurant, not a cheap take-away.

As amazing as I remember it!

My last mamasan review was quite a few years ago when I had to leave the GC. Naturally when I returned for a visit, dinner at mamasan was something I insisted on. And it truly was like coming home. All the old favourites are on the menu and taste just as good as they did back then. Highly recommend their prawn dumplings and the pork belly bao. Also suggest forgoing a bottle of wine and instead trying a few of the cocktails on the menu. It's hard to pick a favourite. Mamasan does something few restaurants do; they have remained consistent, they haven't tried to fix something that isn't broken and they continue to serve absolutely delicious food time and time again. Thank you Mamasan for all the happy in my tummy.

Top shelf service, ace Chef, neo teahouse style Pan Asian restaurant, taste explosion!

The restaurant is probably the best Pan Asian one we have eaten at till date. Neo teahouse style and in alignment with the Oracle Boulevard, Broadbeach zeitgeist. They hvae outdoor tables as well. Started with Lemon, Lime, Bitters and a Penley Estate Cabernet Franc Coonawarraa 2021. Brilliant! We then ordered the Wagyu Beef Red Curry with rice to share. 12 hour braised pulled wagyu beef with daikon, carrot, banana chill, coconut cream and peanuts. The chef came out and asked if he could add shrimp chowder to it to make it even more unique and checked for allergies before doing so. We gave it a go ahead. Finished off with an Ice Cream Bao sandwich. Deep friend cocnut bao with miso ice cream, kaya jam, raspberry gel, sesame nougatine and popping candy. Lip smacking good. An absolute taste explosion! Striking, zesty flavours. You have close ups to the kitchen from where we were seated...bustling, almost hearing the searing works as the magic is cooked up. Service was top shelf. The lady attending to us seemed to have a French accent. A high five for the Chef in charge...Ray Choi.

Always awesome

After a disappointing start at a different restaurant, we walked a few down to see if we could get a table, nothing is ever a problem at Mamasan. We were seated and treated so well. The food is amazing every single time, our picks would be the kingfish, the fried rice, the pork san choy bau, and the Mamasan Wagyu. We love the cocktails but we love that every visit is amazing. We always have accommodating and friendly team members, love that we know it's always awesome.

Vegan Banquet

Booked at table at 7.30pm arrived and 5 staff walked pass us totally ignoring us. After 5mins we were shown to out table and giving menus. None of the staff smiled at all. which was very strange. I am vegan so I ask for the vegan menu as I had seen a vegan banquet option on line and we very excited to try this. When I tried to order was told has to be for 2 quests for more.. My husband isnt vegan so I couldnt order this. Not sure why ? Wish they has stated this on the menu as very disappointing. I just ordered a couple of vegan dishes and my husband ordered crispy sahndong chicken twice cooked half chicken. Food arrived and no cutlery except chop sticks. Steve couldnt eat his half chicken with chop sticks lol. Staff were too busy setting tables for the next day to see us trying to get their attention, so Steve had to get up and ask for cutlery. Trying to get a drink was hard work had to wave or get up to order another drink. Food was tasty but I was still wishing I could have had the vegan banquet. Was left with dirty plates and never asked if we wanted desert. So we left after finishing our drinks surrounded by dirty plates and went pay at the desk. We were asked if every thing was ok, Steve said not great. No response from waitress. Perhaps it was an off night but we left very unimpressed and I left very disappointed about the banquet. Very disappointing wedding anniversary meal.

Spanner crab ravioli is the star

Visited during the week with my husband and son. The spanner crab ravioli never disappoints. I have this every time and it is consistently good. The sauce is to die for. The duck pancakes were good and a great dish to share. We finished off with the pork belly and lamb ribs, both were fantastic and full of flavour. The wine list is extensive, the atmosphere relaxing. Service could be a little better, however, the food makes up for it. Highly recommend

Disappointing

We had lunch and took the Yin menu. The food came very quickly but was too greasy and too sweet. The quantities were reasonable but the pano calamari and the Korean chicken wings were very average. We were charged $11 for a couple of glasses of soda water that came straight out of a soda streamer. The waitress was very pleasant.
