We enjoyed the excellent food and atmosphere. I stopped writing reviews years ago, but just had to comment on the exceptionally unusual staff behaviour when my wife and I went to dinner here a couple of nights ago. I have never anywhere seen staff as...genuinely uninterested or making as little effort to improve the experience as I did at this restaurant. I usually don't care about this very much, and value the food far more than whether or not the staff are nice, but this was odd. Aside from one lady towards the end, not one person said one word more than the absolute mininum the whole night. The interactions were brief and I'm not sure we saw one single smile from anyone. The wait staff were so casual, for example just asking 'what do you want' with the desert menus then just grabbing them and walking away without any niceties or even asking if we wanted any drinks to go with dessert. The drinks guy was the most unusual. Twice he walked quickly up to our table, leaned right over, almost threw the drinks down, and the second they had been dropped was already turning to walk away. Not a smile, a word, and it was almost as though he'd be burnt if he spent a millisecond longer at our table. Maybe this was deliberate and somehow part of the charm? Maybe it was so busy that everyone was stressed? I don't know, and as mentioned, we did really enjoy the food, but I just felt the need to comment on this aspect of it, which surprised us significantly.More

Superb food and service. We thoroughly enjoyed every meal. We asked for their recommendation and the food did not disappoint. Just nothing really for kids to eat except dessert. Definitely worth a try when on the Gold Coast.

The Social Eating House + Bar had excellent reviews and, desperate to book a dinner for valentine’s evening, we thought we’d try it out. We booked a table for two, however we were seated at the bar directly in front of the staff (I don’t...think this arrangement worked for both the couples or the poor staff faced with PDA on Valentine’s Day!), thankfully we were able to move to a regular table outside. The assortment of cocktails and other beverages was reasonable and the staff were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the food was a let down. Everything was very well-presented and there was nothing worth complaining about or getting re-made, but the standard of the food did not at all match the reputation of the restaurant. Hopefully our next visit will be better :)More

First of all, the food was worth a five star review and the service was worth about three. We had scallops, lamb empanadas, a selection of carrots and the wagyu. The wagyu was amazing. It is pretty pricey for the amount of food you get...but that’s somewhat to be expected. The reason for two stars is the fact that what was described as a $100 holding deposit was charged and after six days, still hasn’t returned. When we called the next day we were told three to four days, and after six days and a few unanswered emails and calls we were told it takes seven to ten days for the money to come back. Also maybe some form of apology for the muck around would have been appreciated. According to the wait staff it’s a system they don’t like because it creates unhappy customers, well why don’t they change it? We won’t be returning as it’s a massive joke to be out of pocket $100 for up to ten days just to book a table at this place.More

My husband and I dined at Social Eating House and Bar twice during a recent visit to the Gold Coast, and the food and exceptional customer service blew us out of the water on both occasions. The dishes we had were the slow-cooked lamb shoulder,...the char-grilled cabbage and the prawn risotto. All were memorable, and we look forward to returning to this very friendly and welcoming restaurant again when we next visit the Gold Coast.More

Booked an inside table for Sunday dinner. Great bread and scallops to start. We shared the lamb shoulder between 3 of us, but it could easily have done 4. Lovely fried brussel sprouts and amazing potatoes. My Dad couldn't stop raving about his pork belly....Definitely a great experience. Taylor, our waiter, was excellent. He added a bit of fun to the night. Thanks, Taylor!More

My wife and I decided we would have one date night on our holiday with the family and organise a babysitter. We decided we would go somewhere that looked amazing even if it was more than we would normally pay when going out for dinner....The service was great (pay attention to the water they offer. I picked still water not knowing that we had purchased a $10 bottle of water. Very cheeky) food was amazing and worth its price. The unfortunate thing was we asked to sit inside not knowing how intimate the tables are. What was supposed to be a romantic dinner was completed ruined by a table of 6 young men who f and c with every sentence and voices overpowered and ruined the atmosphere. It completely ruined the ambience and was borderline offensive. We hastily ate our meals so we could just leave. We would of stayed and tried desert and had a couple more glasses of wine but the experience was ruined.More

Experience was poor, food was ok. Not really what we’d expected for somewhere with multiple Chefs Hats. We arrived just before our 8.30pm booking and were promptly seated. We waited for about 10 minutes before waving to catch the attention of the staff to order...a drink and ask about the Banquet Menu - we were told this menu is only available for large groups - no mention of this on the website. We ordered off the standard menu instead but no real insight offered into the menu from staff. After ordering our food, everything we’d ordered (snacks, entree, mains and sides) had been brought out within 35 minutes! We’d had that much food, that quickly that we couldn’t finish either of our mains/ sides. Kitchen closed pretty much as we were served our food and we were left the only couple sat in one half of the restaurant. It had gone from quite a noisy atmosphere to awkwardly quiet very quickly. The waitress who served was extremely apologetic and removed a couple of items from our bill and offered us a couple of complimentary drinks. She was lovely. The manager also offered us further discount ($50), which was appreciated but overall, a massively underwhelming experience in a restaurant that needs a lot of refinement.More

One of the highlights of our weekend away was eating here. Love the focus on interesting veggie dishes. Speedy service and the caramelised butter. To die for and you can buy it to take home. So pleased this is only an hour from home.

Outstanding wait staff, their sommelier's recommendations were excellent and paired very well with the dishes we selected. The food was amazing, different and very tasty. My 'go-back-for-more' dish was their garlic prawns in butter and cider...sensational, best ever.
