Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Given the location and the fact that it’s a hotel restaurant, I think this buffet is very good. There’s loads of choice and the food is good quality. If this was a ski lodge in the US it would be a lot more expensive! For...$79 (about £39) you can enjoy soups, starters, main course, desserts, ice cream (with sweeties!), cheese and biscuits, plus tea/coffee. And the views are phenomenal! I loved the prawns/mussels/clams/sushi/smoked salmon cold starters, and the beef/venison/prawns in the main course were also very good. Service was friendly and tables/plates were taken away very regularly. The only negatives for me were the desserts (looked great but very bland) and the restaurant chairs could do with a good clean! If you’re staying then it’s a good dinner option (see separate review for the more expensive full service panorama restaurant also based at the hotel ).More

Meh. Cruise ship buffet brunch on land. but only show in town. Lots of options. We ate, we got full, we were uninspired. The view was nice but the yellow upholstered chairs were stained and filthy. Service was friendly and professional.

Our group of 17 stayed at the Hermitage Hotel and ate the first night at the buffet. Some of the items were a big hit like the small sushi rolls, the roasted veggies and salmon. Most of the food was average and none of the...desserts were very good. I found it to be a little pricey so the next night I ate at the cafe down the road to save money and not be overwhelmed by the buffet a second night.More

Excellent evening buffet food in great surroundings looking out over Mount Cook. Great food choices including deserts and coffee. Part of a top quality hotel. Good value at 79 dollars for those with a healthy appetite. Quality options for all tastes.

We had dinner buffet here after our glacier boat tour. It's a very busy place as expected, yet still organised and not too crowded. There was a variety of choices and more importantly, the quality of food far exceeds our expectations (frankly, after a few...day's stay in Christchurch and Tekapo, we found NZ lack of good cuisine, locals do not pursue fine dining or quality cuisine 😑). Many dishes are hearty, creative and nicely presented. It's our best meal in our NZ trip.More

We are staying at the hotel and decided to try the buffet eventhough we are not buffet fans, because in the Alpine area, dining choices are understandably limited. For 100$NZD per adult (Queenstown price), the variety of food is average (free tea and coffee, alcohol...separate ), but clean and fresh. There is Vegan food, stewed venison and roast lamb. The skewered prawns are pinky sized and probably frozen. Soft icecream. Good for families.More

The menu was fabulous, and delicious. Not too much choice which I think is a good sign. Staff were charming and attentive. The view was stunning. The only downside was the over zealous air conditioning made it less than cosy. Many diners sat in thin...puffer jackets !More

Since there aren't many restaurants in Mount Cook Village, we splurged and ate here on two consecutive nights. Their buffet has a HUGE selection (including appetizers, salads, breads, soups, beef/chicken/venison/fish, side dishes, and desserts), along with beautiful mountain views! We were pleasantly surprised that there...were many different choices on our second night. The buffet was a set price ($79NZD; approximately $47USD) and diners have a two-hour time limit. But, one can certainly consume a lot of food in two hours!More

This was part of The Hermitage Hotel, and we used this restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was excellent with a wide range of dishes. What you would expect, really. Dinner was good, too. Dishes were plentiful and well prepared. You could eat as...much as you like. I think, however, that after 3 nights, I'd find the choice more limiting as it wasn't clear how often the menu was changed. That said, I can fault what was on offer so gave it a 5.More

Family of 5 came here and we loved it so much we came back the next night! Service was fantastic - my husband and I were laughing at how we just had the think something and someone did it - from topping up our water...to clearing our plates - we didn’t wait for anything even though the restaurant was packed. Found the food delicious and there was something for everyone. The kids particularly LOVED the dessert bar (and so did I). We booked early and got a good table on the side that had lovely views - I think the later you arrive the further back you are. My only complaint was that despite there being 45 cm of snow that day there was no mulled wine! 😊 Otherwise we were all happy with our dining experience here.More

Amazing dinner. The buffet has everything, from beautiful seafood, hot foods, including the most delicious pork ribs I've ever had, and finally a beautiful assortment of deserts the whole thing was great. Topped off with a stunning view, I would highly recommend this too anyone...that wants a special night out. We didn't stay at the hermatige, but booked the day before for dinner, and our kids loved it as well. Well done to the chefs and staff for making our experience an amazing one!More

Same buffet food every day. Tastes and looks like it was prepared the day before. All at a premium price. The views are spectacular though.

We weren’t guests at the hotel so had only limited choice for dinner 5 pm or 8 pm. The staff are multicultural the Chinese waiter who checked us in gruffly informed us that we needed to be out by 7. 7 pm was ample time...his attitude didn’t impress me snd I feel he could have put a professional way of informing guests. Our waiter was lovely he was Turkish and the buffet had lots to offer it was lacking in flavour. I had the roast lamb with roasted veg and red wine jus. I am an amateur and though the lamb was cooked to perfection it lacked flavour. Perhaps the lamb was sourced locally. Also my husband and I both agreed that the waiter staff had bad breath. Our table was perfect right on the window taking in the breathtaking scenery. A downer was that I was sitting pretty much on top of the heater. This made dinner less enjoyable. Don’t go for the cold seafood as it was tasteless and I felt probable frozen tooling, not fresh at all. The magic moment of the night was the breathtaking views. Your better off not going here and supplying your own food coming on a BBQ with a nice bottle of red.More
