Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An exceptional buffet with an incredible range of wonderful products, and a top view. Even vegeterians will find ample options. They have a good list of quality wines.

We are here for one night (and also in the hotel buffet Alpine restaurant - see separate review). We enjoyed our meal and the service was friendly and attentive. The view is lovely and we were lucky to have a table near the window (although...it was a little chilly!). The starters and main courses were very tasty and well presented. The ‘lava’ chocolate dessert was a bit of a let down as not runny in the middle, only slightly warm and a bit dry which was a shame. At $95 a head it’s only slightly more than the buffet next door and it is nice to be served and enjoy linen tablecloths! I’d give it 4 out of 5 because of the dessert and chillyness!More

We spent 2 nights in Mt. Cook Village [staying at Haka House Hostel :) ] and ate here both nights. Between the two of us, we were able to try nearly every dish and thoroughly enjoyed most of them. Favorites included aged beef steak, pork...terrine, and scallops. The wine pairings were overall quite good. Service was uniformly friendly and timely. This was such a nice treat in this gorgeous, isolated location.More

Attentive service and “fancy” tiny expensive servings in three course meal. One of our meals was three tiny slices of lamb with about a teaspoon of smooshed peas and a few tiny salad-ish slices of veggies. The other meal was sliced beef with forgotten sides....When we realized we weren’t going to get full on what we’d been served we asked for more bread. Our lovely waitress returned to say she’d have to charge us a dollar for each extra piece of bread she brought us. We were embarrassed for her to have bear that news, and bought the bread. Dessert was yummy. Despite the name of the place and the opportunity for panoramic views, the bushes in front of the windows were so high and unkempt the views were limited.More

This is the fixed menu three course, reservation required restaurant. The service was great and fact no kiddos under 14 were allowed made for a romantic quiet evening. The food was top notch, however on the pricey side for the portions. Still have 5 stars...as all food options in the area are pricey and this one for the bit of extra money was worth it. I enjoyed the cheese soufflé, beef filet and chocolate tart. All beautifully presented with interesting but great pairing items. We didn’t do the wine pairing but those who did at others tables seemed to enjoy it.More

When we arrived on time for our dinner reservation (made weeks in advance), the host unapologetically said the only table he had was directly behind his desk with windows completely obscured by a large hedge (not exactly a panorama view). He said anything else would...be at least a 30-45 minute wait, and did not even offer us a drink at the hotel bar in the meantime. We left rather than waste good money on an inferior experience. Very disappointing.More

The food was very high quality and the flavours exquisite. Very impressed with it. It was a set menu of 3 courses for$95. Our waitress was excellent too, we felt a little bit chilly as the weather was not good, and she even went and...found a portable heater for us. As it was cloudy we couldn’t see too much of the famous view. Definitely recommend.More

They try in every way here, on the food quality, presentation, and particularly on service. Panorama restaurant is a breath of fresh air compared to every other F&B place in this hotel. It is a no-brainer to pay a little bit more to upgrade from...the buffet next door and be treated like a guest.More

We treated ourselves to a meal here, having eaten twice at the Alpine buffet next door. The food was excellent. The only reason I haven't given a 5 is because there was a slight confusion at one point in the service. It didn't really impact...the overall experience though. Would recommend but couldn't eat here every night as it was a real treat.More

We received a very warm welcome from Shiela(?) upon arrival and were shown to a wonderful table with a fantastic view of Mount Cook. We both choice different Entrees and Mains from the set menu and both had the same dessert. All courses were well...presented, tasty and good quality. All staff who served us were polite, professional and friendly. So glad we chose to eat here it was a very memorable experience. Considering the view from this restaurant and price is reasonable.More

We were eagerly anticipating this dinner, but it turned out to be a disappointment. Our reservation was at 8pm and we arrived right on time. There were 3-4 courses, and each dish took 45 mins to arrive! The server seemed to have forgot about us...- customers who arrived way later than us had their food served earlier, and many of them left before us. We had to prompt the waiters several times to ask where our food was. We ended up being the last few diners to leave, at 10pm. The main dish of steak was also poorly done. This dinner was overpriced, and sorely disappointing.More

Due to the limited options for restaurants in Mt. Cook Village we made a reservation for the Panorama Room in The Hermitage Hotel. Given the circumstances we were not expecting much but we were very pleasantly surprised. This pre fixe 3 course meal had excellent...choices for both my seafood loving husband and gluten free me. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The view of the mountains at sunset was spectacular and the service was outstanding. Turned out to be the best meal of our 23 day trip! Note: this is a separate restaurant from the buffet restaurant next door from which we had 2 mediocre breakfasts (both the eggs and water for tea were cold).More

Had dinner and bf at this restaurant. Food is ok, quality of food is also good. Service is meh. I had to repeatedly inform the staff to fill up the milk into the thermo flask. And there’s various kinds of milk like almond, skim, full...cream etc. and staff just fill up anyhow. . Overall, very pricey meal, but there’s nothing much to eat around too.More

Pretty amazed that this was the best the Hermitage Hotel had to offer as a fine dining dinner option. While there were ample food choices to suit every taste, it seemed quite expensive for a buffet. My friends and I dined at the Panorama the...first of our two night stay, and decided to skip the second evening. We drove to Twizel and picked up enough fresh, delicious choices for a picnic dinner...and also had two fantastic breakfasts there, instead of revisiting the buffet.More

Decided to get two items out of the self serve display (pre cooked food), when paying for it I was asked if I wanted them warmed up, I said yes please. When they eventually reappeared the outsides were warm and crispy however the insides were...super cold. Glad I didn't order food as I would hate to think how my stomach would feel after if this is how things are warmed.More
