3 Nov 2019, lunch for 2
Not nearly enough staff on duty.
Asked for our meals to come together and for our drinks to come together. My husband's coffee arrived before my tea and he had almost finished before I got my drink. Our meals...came separately and I had to ask where mine was. I overheard a couple with the same problem.
Angus beef burger lacked flavour.
I ordered smoked chicken and cranberry filo. Filo doesn't do too well being heated in a microwave. Plate too small. Meal was falling off the plate when I tried to cut the pie. Luke warm. I would have expected to be able to taste smoked chicken. Couldn't. Sauce very rich and overwhelming.
Slow to clear tables which weren't being wiped down between customers. Health and safety breaches. Young woman who was handling food was wiping her nose with the back of her hand.
Hot day so needed a glass of water. Water was tepid.
Won't go back. Not a good experience and lots of other choices available.More
Having previously frequented a very close cafe and found it increasingly unappealing Robert Harris has been our ‘go to’ for many weeks now. The menu & cabinet options are great and are visually appealing as well as tasty. Great coffee. What really sets them apart...though is the welcoming friendly and efficient service.More
Extremely surprised and disappointed with my recent visit to Robert Harris, Papamoa Plaza. What was intended to be a nice, spur of the moment, late lunch with family turned out instead to be a huge disappointment.
Presentation of food in cabinets was very appealing and...clean and we looked forward to our meal with anticipation. And, I must say we were not disappointed, the food was indeed as delicious as it looked. Sadly the cleanliness and lack of food safety witnessed soured the whole experience.
We had arrived for a late lunch, not rush hour. There were a few diners in the cafe but it was certainly not crowded by any means. We chose a table but found the majority of tables were covered with dirty cups, dishes and food scraps still waiting to be cleared. We cleared our own table to one side so that we could eat our lunch. When our order was served we had to ask for the dirty pile of plates to be taken away. A few were taken, the other left ... Looking around at the other tables covered in dirty plates and crumbs just left and ignored was astounding. Other diners were also being served with their meals and the previously used plates from earlier customers were simply left and not cleared. Most unsatisfactory! Staff were not rushed off their feet but didn't seem to notice or care about the mess. Unbelievable!
To make matters worse we then witnessed an employee cleaning the food cabinets. Yes, she did have tongs in one hand but was picking up the food and moving it with her bare other hand, touching counter tops and trays then touching the food again. We couldn't believe what we were seeing .. a health hazard in the making!
When spoken to, staff were unaware of what, if any, food safety practices were in the company policies. There are very strict guidelines for any food preparation and presentation and it seems an appropriate time for management to instigate a training session in this regard.More
