We went to Victory Hotel restaurant on a Sunday for lunch. We had been on
a hike earlier and were very hungry by the time we got there. As our table wasn't ready, we wanted to take a look at the menu to decide what...to order, so that by the time we got the table, we would be ready to place the order straightaway. But the server insisted we must be seated at the table first. We reluctantly agreed.
Finally, we got the table, by which time we were ravenous. Our group ordered the lamb, pork, snapper, squid and King George Whiting for mains. Although it took a little over an hour to get the food, all the mains were equally good. Everyone was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. While we were eating, we asked for the dessert menu, as two in our party needed to leave early. The server said 'usually the dessert menu is brought to the table only after the mains are cleared'. We explained to her that some in our party needed to leave early and that's why they want to place the dessert order right then, so they could get the desserts as soon as they finished the mains. After a very long wait, we finally got the dessert menu. We mostly ordered pannacotta / cannoli. Two in our group ordered the affogato. Once the mains were cleared, all desserts came to the table, except the affogato. After waiting for a few minutes, one in our party went inside to ask about the missing desserts, only to be told 'usually, affogato is served after the desserts are finished'. So, the two who ordered affogato had to wait until the rest finished their desserts, to get theirs. Then we ordered coffee. Again, waited and waited, no coffee. Had to go in and remind, after which the coffee finally came.
By the time we finished, we were rather tired of the server' s attitude and we just wanted to leave. It was a real pity the service was so lacklustre-because the food was tasty, and the portion sizes were generous. The location was lovely. But ultimately, it was the service that left a lasting impression on us.More
