About
The "Grotta di Tiburzi" is a small Wine Bar Restaurant run by Mariangela and her daughters Bianca and Ada. It lies in the historical center of the medieval small town of Chiusdino (Siena) within easy reach of the Romanesque Abbey of Montesiepi and of the Cistercien Cathedral of San Galgano. Galgano Guidotti was born in Chiusdino where his home, turned into a chapel nowadays, can be visited. Chiusdino is perched on a small hill overlooking the "Alta Val di Merse", an age-old route through the "Colline Metallifere" leading from Siena to Massa Marittima and the nearly Maremma, once a land of malaria and bandits. The management therefore has rightly chosen to call the restaurant for the bandit's name. The restaurant which is located in Via Paolo Mascagni n.15, Consists of three distinct rooms adorned with structures and decorations typically medieval, such as arches vaults and settling tanks for water storage, besides a natural cave with even temperature. The rooms were once used as a distillery until the mid-1900, nowadays however they can sit up to 25/30 guests around wooden and marble tables. A cosy homely atmosphere welcomes you to enjoy the typical Senese cooking, still firmly bound to tradition and to taste some excellent red wines, such as "Chianti", "Brunello di Montalcino" and "Nobile di Montepulciano".

This place was SUCH a good find in Chiusdino. It's small but mighty. Everything we ordered we were impressed by, the staff was so kind and patient with us since Italian was not our first language. I truly cannot wait to go back this October. The pasta was so fresh and we couldn't stop ordering dishes to share. Thank you again!

Really very nice, well-kept and characteristic place. In addition to the quality of the dishes, helpful staff and fast service made our lunch very pleasant. Pici to panic crumbs. I highly recommend stopping by this place if you are in the area.

We made a last minute reservation for lunch as a prelude to a visit to a nearby site. Our meals were fantastic! The ingredients were ultra fresh, the service (one of the owner’s daughters) was friendly, prompt and above and beyond. She came out and offered to walk me to a convenient parking spot and to translate the menu for us. To top it all off, the prices were more than reasonable. Lunch was a great value. We highly recommend this spot!!

Given I chose this restaurant on the basis it was the only place out of full sun to eat in Chiusdino, I was delighted with the food and service. I was surrounded by Italian holiday makers and maybe a couple of locals, always a good sign. As plates of food arrived, necks were stretched to see what others were having. All of looked very appetising. I recommend the mixed crostini and the tagliata, the latter arriving on a sizzling hot plate. Wonderful food and a great atmosphere.

Lunch with typical Tuscan specialties, "gnudi" with tomato. Gnudi stands for "naked" in Tuscan dialect, it is as if they were naked tortelli, that is, without the dough around them, they are round balls made with spinach, ricotta, grated cheese, flour and egg, dipped many times in flour and cooked, served with tomato sauce, very light (I would have eaten more), then excellent grilled meat with salad and finally mascarpone cream and coffee. Fast service, friendly staff.

Chiusdino, medieval village. This excellent restaurant is located, run by only girls, very smart and professional. Excellent food, excellent prices. The location is also fascinating. We had two starters of cured meats and cheeses and two first courses (naked with ragout and tortelli). The spinato wine (they are usually never good) and the cantucci with Vin santo are also delicious. Well done, should we pass through the area again, we will definitely be back.

I had lunch with my daughter at this place recommended by a work colleague. We took a cold cuts and cheese appetizer and a portion of crostini to split between two. Then first, gnudi butter and sage and tortelli with walnuts and gorgonzola. Low price

In the center of Chiusdino, a small village not far from Siena, known for the Abbey of S. Galgano and the sword in the stone: there is this little restaurant that offers excellent local cuisine and, quite unexpectedly, an amazing Florentine. In these parts, considering the age-old rivalry between Siena and Florence, it is not easy to find a place that offers Florentine steak. It is almost impossible for this one to be better than many Florentine steaks tasted in the expected places. This would be enough to make it a place worth mentioning with a blue pencil, but anything else tasted would be worth a stop in itself: pici with crumbs and cacio e pepe, pappardelle with wild boar ragout. Good desserts, very honest prices: first courses for less than €10, Florentine steak for €40 per kg, other second courses around €10, desserts around €5. To be stored on the navigator and returned as soon as possible.

We were told at the door, no tables outside available...no one was in the restaurant, inside or out. They said they didn't have a table set inside although they were already open for 30 minutes! She also told us if we want to see a menu, take a picture of the chalkboard outside and bring it in with us! If this was any indication of the service we would receive and have to pay for it, just wasn't worth the aggravation!!! I wouldn't recommend any restaurant, good food or not that treat their guests like that before we even entered the door!!! .

Undoubtedly a nice, characteristic place thanks to some tables that are placed in a part of the room with a stone vault (resembling a cave). As for the dinner.....Without infamy or praise. Little more than enough, despite doing everything they can to improve. "Normal" local dishes as found throughout the area. It lacks that "twist" to earn higher grades. To give an example: I took the "pici all'aglione", but the flavor of the garlic was non-existent. However it could improve

Hands down the best pasta I’ve had during my trip of Italy - and I’ve eaten some amazingly delicious pasta! We came across this very cute restaurant while trying to buy fish. The very sweet couple who own the place helped with some advice then invited us to see the restaurant. From the outside it looks like a cute local restaurant. However, once inside you are greeted with a gorgeous dining area encased by a unique cave (grotto) and water well from historical times! A good menu and what felt like it would be an authentic approach to cooking was exciting. We continued on our quest for fish but decided to come back later in the evening. Later that evening we turned up around 930pm - and were warmly welcomed in. We sat in the cave dining room and ordered cacio e Pepe and the pasta with bottarga (fish eggs). Both were unbelievably delicious - the best we had all trip (and we’ve eaten at some amazing restaurants in Rome - amalfi - Tuscany - some with Michelin stars). Beyond the food, the family that runs the place were just so warm, welcoming and ran the place because they want people to be happy eating their home style cooking! We definitely felt the love and passion that went into our pasta. Chuisdino is a small quaint town that is part of the Siena region - probably lesser known then some of the other towns. HOWEVER, this restaurant is out of this world and worth a detour just to eat the food and check out the cave and meet the lovely family that run this restaurant. Go here if you want authentic, delicious food that you will dream of days, weeks, months! I’m already thinking of when we will go back so I can have the pasta with bottarga again! YUM!

A little gem of an Osteria off the beaten path in a quaint small village of Chiusdino, Italy. We were at the site of the San Galgano, the Hermitage and the small village of Chiusdino where the tale of the San Galgano, the small church and the storied head of San Galgano is the relic. We enjoyed a light meal of salad, naked spinach balls, and desert. We loved the meat and environment of the Osteria and Village. This is a necessary stop if you have made the trek to the Hermitage.

We are here traveling with 8 friends. The restaurant easily accommodated our party of 10, with prior reservations confirmed via email. This is a wonderful find in a quaint medieval city, which you should explore. The food was outstanding, pasta amazing. Service was great and attentive. These 3 ladies have a process that you should check out

Excellent lunch in this cozy restaurant in beautiful Chiusdino. Their speciality pici with crumbs were just delicious as well as the house wine and everything else we had. Excellent price quality ratio. I would definitely go back if in the area!
