Visited for the first time on a Thursday evening with friends although I often pass this place travelling along the A140. Nice decor and friendly welcome from the staff upon arrival and an opportunity to study the menu and specials whilst enjoying a drink in the bar area. We all opted for the daily special of anti-pasta starter and chicken... More

Great food very welcoming staff. Food very thoughtful and flavoursome without pretentious undertones. Good bar with an eye to quality foregoing cliched or standard beer for a fantastic Japanese lager. Owners commended.

Sunday family lunch, plenty of choice and an excellent venue, service a bit slow between courses so leave plenty of time. Well recommended.

We were a party of 8 booked in for when the pub opened. We were served drinks and given menus to read on arrival. Not an extensive choice but all good quality, so it was difficult to make a choice. We were shown to our table and our orders were taken after a few minutes. After that the service did... More

Visited the restaurant last Friday night as the wife and I were on a weekend away in Suffolk. We chose this restaurant as it was located close to where we were staying. I must say the meal we had were probably the best we've ever had when eating out. The food is home cooked, and both the mains and desserts... More

Went for an evening meal, pleasantly surprised by both the pub itself and also the food and drink on offer. Landlord was really helpful and accommodating and couldn't have made us more welcome. Would definitely eat there again asap !

Stopped on our way to Norwich for a break. Ordered two meals both of which were fantastic. Service was polite and friendly, would gladly recommend this as a place to stop for a refreshment break.

I am a US resident who visits relatives in this part of the UK from time to time and we've made a habit of always having a meal out at the Highwayman because of the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, good service and great choice of food. Over the years I have visited this pub we've always enjoyed the variety of... More

Nice food, but service was a little lacklustre for a saturday night. For a lovely suffolk pub/restaurant, we thought it odd that they had a japanese lager on tap, instead of something of a more local origin, but each to their own. We waited a while before our order was taken. The pies were tasty, and dessert was of a... More

Description
A friendly family welcome is extended to all who visit The Highwayman, a grade II listed 17th century timber framed building that has been sympathetically extended. Located on the A140, just a few minutes outside Ipswich, Needham Market and Stowmarket in Suffolk, The Highwayman is easily accessible and an ideal meeting point for all occasions.David & Olga took over the running of The Highwayman restaurant in Ipswich in October 2004 and warmly welcome everyone to sample the honest homecooked food, a good selection and well kept real ales. The main restaurant and galleries provide a traditional and relaxing atmosphere in the which to dine amongst soft lighting that compliments the exposed oak frame of the building. Our food is all about the ingredients which, whenever possible, are locally sourced, seasonal and always freshly prepared. In particular a relaxing Sunday lunchtime at The Highwayman is sure to become a tradition. Tuck into roast rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
