The decor of Shiranui is not particularly inviting nor well laid out. It has a Japanese ambience but lacks warmth, coziness...romance?? BUT the food is excellent and worth going back for several times. The menu is small (a good sign!) and the prices are reasonably high, but the quality and freshness are very high. We chose the gyoza for an... More

You have to book as this place can get booked up since it is small and rather exclusive. The last meal we had was the Omakase / 10 course meal. Each dish was individualistic and came with it's recommendations of whether an accompanying dipping sauce or the suggestion of soy or not to soy. Every course was different from the last... More

This place is a bit of a local institution, along with Fedeles and East Empress, these 3 have been in the area for decades. Believe it or not we have literally walked past the place thousands of times and finally splashed out and ate dinner here. Well prepared and well presented food with the freshest of ingredients. Melt in your... More

Came to Shiranui for a family occasion, had seen the many good reviews and were looking forward to the dinner. To start with the positives, the food that we ordered was good, a range of sashimi, chicken karange and tempura. The wait staff were very friendly and efficient. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also pleasant and welcoming. The restaurant... More

Been going there for many years. Omikase on the bar is the way to go but as yrs go by the portions are getting smaller n smaller. For the price they charge it could be a bigger piece of sushi. No doubt is delicious. Will have to keep up the quality to keep surviving in that competitive area

Attending the 8pm late night seating saw us dine in an izakaya style, which is the Japanese equivalent of tapas, or in plain English - small dishes. At least, we attempted to approach the menu selection/ordering in that way... As the photos will show, this approach meant that for two people, we had a lot to eat. This also goes... More

With the quality of the food offered the owner/chef could easily open a bigger, more pretentious restaurant in the city & compete favorably with the best of them but, luckily for us who live close by, he has stayed in the same, small, single shop front location in Glen Waverley for a number of years now. Perhaps it's tradition that... More

Waitresses curt and cold. We were there for 90 mins. They tried to clean up table in the attempt to hurry us out inspite of the lack of patrons. Very tensed & unpleasant experience.
