Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We used to love the Butchers Block and were sad to see its demise. Yet we were excited to see that the restaurant was now Middle Eastern. Having lived in Dubai and travelled extensively in the middle east, we were excited to be able to...experience our favourite cuisine close to home. Disappointingly, this was the very worst mese platter that we’ve ever tasted. At $25 pp charge we had high expectations but every dish was appalling and well beyond par. Strangely the chicken sewers that we ordered were superb, succulent, beautifully flavoured and delicious. The majority of the menu was not, in fact, middle eastern, but Indian. I suspect that this is their forte, and is probably the reason that the chicken was so much better. Please stick to what you can do best and stop pretending to be a middle eastern restaurant. You do that very badly!More

Just disappointed with the meal. Service was great but the food just didn’t meet our expectations. The grilled chicken (part of the platter was tasty but had a strange texture. Maybe it’s supposed to be that way but just not delicious. The beef was OK...but the sausage meat roll was not really eatable.More

Came here for a group work dinner. Good friendly staff. Tasty food. Great to share with a group. And lots of different drinks choices for our group.

We were celebrating my 50th Birthday with a couple of friends. While the menu has recently changed it has gone downhill. Maybe they need to rethink their whole philosophy of the menu & not try to be so influenced by the Asian cuisine offerings nearby....The lamb tacos were nice as they always are. The things that let them down was the vegetable fries which were burnt. The chicken skewers weren’t nice & the pulled pork bun was awful. The desert we had was the dark chocolate tart which was nice. While one of the friends had previously dined with us & really enjoyed it previously. The other friend hadn’t. We were so disappointed that we won’t dine there again.More

I'm giving 3 Stars It not average, it's good. But it could be much better. At some point the menu has to change. Thank goodness they will modify the meal. The menu, trying to read it and referring to the next page to read the...definitions of the words used in the menu. (See photo menu) Simplify the menu and change it soon. I ordered the steak each time, though cooked beautifully and the charred lemon works well. It works well without any exotic spices, you don't need it.More

I have dined at Urban Citizen a few times now, and every time I have dined the experience has been fantastic. It really is a local 'classy' restaurant, something I feel you would find in the CBD. The menu offers a variety in dishes, and...the chefs are very accommodating to personal requests. The pan friend dumplings in peanut sauce are delish! The beverage menu is extensive and really leaves you spolit for choice! Highly recommend the Melburnian cocktail! Staff are really warm and friendly, and are great at providing you with their recommendations on dishes and cocktails. Definitely have made the Urban Citizen my new local!More

First time here with friends It is part of a hotel chain. I was intially concerned with the dinner menu to the point I inquired the night before about the menu. The menu dishes had interesting spices or fusion words. The back of the menu...had the list of words and explanations, quite a few of them. Quite daunting to choose a dish. Pork Belly with a curry sauce and rice. Nothing wrong with that. I just wanted to have a simpler dish. and l spoke to them and that wasn't a problem. It was a nice meal, though a little light on the roast potatoes, two chat tiny ones cut in half. Also a little inconsistency below photos of my dish and restaurant dish presentation is certainly different. I think they should have something in the menu that they are able to modify dishes upon request, making it more attractive. I've have listed their menu, complete with a Glossary.More
