I went here with two work colleagues from India visiting our UK office . The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent . A great specials menu with some imaginative dishes . The chef/ proprietor was very accommodating and even brought a fish from the kitchen to show my colleague before he cooked it to explain the dish... More

We've been here a number of times over the years, as family on special occasions, stop offs after dog walks and nights out with the other half and I don't think I've had a bad meal. Staff have always been polite and attentive. Great beer on tap. All round great country pub.

Back for an evening meal with friends having enjoyed a great New Years Eve at the White Horse. The hosts and the staff are great and make you feel welcome straight away - a menu to offer something for everyone and more, and the quality of the food served is fabulous. The 'proper home made pie' with short crust pastry... More

We came at the end of Feb for my fiancé 50th birthday for which we had booked a table for 21 of us. We had one end of the pub overlooking the garden all to ourselves. We were asked to pre order except for desserts which worked perfectly. Gayner was very helpful from booking right till the moment we left.... More

We arrived early evening so food came quickly and service pleasant. Soup under seasoned and bland. Main course chicken schnitzel ok but the egg on top over cooked and hard. Our other dishes were ok but we felt the ingredients were low quality and not executed with care. But for the price we didnt complain as overall the value represented... More

I am obviously sorry that Jessy of Romsey found her soup under seasoned and her egg on the schnitzel over cooked. I have read all Jessy's reviews on trip advisor and feel that once more we are dealing with a serious amateur food critic. Perhaps she, like me, is lamenting the recent demise of the legendary and highly respected food... More

Despite my previous review in which we couldn't get a table as the restaurant wasn't open, we decided to again call into the White Horse to see for ourselves what the food was like as we hadn't eaten here for many years and certainly not since the new owners had taken over. We thought that my opinion was only based... More

I have tried eating my words and humble pie, they are hard to chew, even harder to swallow and you have to be a big man to eat them in public. I thank you for you review which shows that sometime Tripadvisor works for both parties. Please let me know if you come in again, I would like to buy... More

Went here many years ago and had the best pie ever.....so decided to revisit. It's a lovely old-fashioned proper country inn, roaring fire very comfy especially on a wet Sunday afternoon. We all had starters which were nice although, they substituted the bread on my rarebit for a very bland slice of white bread! I followed up with the roast... More

As we live just down the road we go here a lot, the food is reliably great, the beer and the wine selection is good too. Very happy to live nearby.

Description
Parts of the ancient building of the White Horse date back to the 16th century, and the two large Inglenook open fires bear testament to their heritage with their smoking chambers and their priest hole. These fires which are always alight during the winter months throw their heat into the various bar areas. The locals bar, with its dart board, and cosy village atmosphere retains the typical English pub image. Roaring log fire, the slap of cards on the table during a crib match and the thump of darts in the board, echo quietly in this bar. No background music can be heard, just the agitated discussions of the village elders who frequent this oasis of good beer & conversation. The lounge bar, with its equally large Inglenook can accommodate up to 40 people sitting and many more standing. Used by many people as a dining area, it still retains its “Olde World Charm”. A comfortable Chesterfield and deep farmhouse chairs merely add to the pleasant ambience of this lovely area. The restaurant has been built in a new area that extends towards the lovely pub garden. Seating 90 customers it makes a perfect place to enjoy the excellent food that is always available.
