We have visited Talybont-on-Usk in January/February for the past three years and always had a family catch up meal at the Star Inn. This year the pub is under new ownership and whilst in previous years the food was always good the new owners provide excellent home-cooked food. The menu isn't extensive which is a good sign as they seem... More

Suggest using the entrance from the street as the one from the canal is a little dingy, but once inside, it is clearly where the locals hangout. Staff at the bar were friendly. We went for dinner and they had some nice choices. The lamb chops were great, the monkfish a little less so. They were actually fish nuggets, but... More

Local pub serving great food. On main road and parking restricted but well worth the while once inside.

Been going to The Star Inn on and off for years. It's not changed that much, and I am glad. Okay, it good do with a bit of TLC, but the beer is great. The food is on the pricey side, but it's no frills, but BIG portions. Great if you been out walking the Beacons all day.

We went in, as we had arranged to meet friends there. The rear entrance via the garden, with a view to choosing a table, as we were early, around 12.10pm. Some of the paintwork inside the back door was grubby, and the smell from the cellar was not good. before we got a chance to explain (we were looking out... More

Nice country pub, good welcome, excellent range of beers, canalside garden, could do with a bit of a refurb inside looking a bit tired.

Cosy and traditional is the way I would describe the Star, like the good old 'locals' used to be. I wouldn't describe it as 'run down', more well used but with lovely old and solid furnishings. If you want to enjoy a good pint near the canal then this is one of many good options and personally speaking, I like... More

We stopped off mid walk at this little pub in the village to have lunch. We made it just in time before food orders stopped at 2.30. The bar person was very accommodating and helpful. We brought the dog and sat in the garden to enjoy the sunshine. The food was great quality, we really loved the local welsh lamb... More

The pub is filthy, dirty and run down with sticky furniture. The menu is tiny and unimaginative, the meals are shockingly disgusting. There is a large selection of beers but they are so badly kept most are undrinkable. If you do have a trip to Talybont-on-Usk go to the White Hart Inn next door.
