First Class. Simply the best. My Dad always raved about this place when he visited Melbourne from Adelaide in the 70’s. So it was with high expectation and anticipation that 50 years later I should find myself in the same venue We booked in advance as a pre MCG BBL match treat. We were a group of 4, 2 adults and 2 ten year old sons in tow. The welcome was warm and genuine as we were seen to our table. Michael - who we discovered was the son of the late Vlados, was a terrific guy and made us feel at home. The decor I doubt has changed much in 50years but it sets the tone beautifully. There is a real homeliness about the place. The pictures on the wall are a testament to the who’s who of the famous - Prime Ministers, Formula One drivers and world renown actors have all dined here repeatedly. Onto the food. The mixed entree consisted of sausage, pork neck, hamburger patty and finely sliced liver all cooked over charcoal. For reference Doug was serving and Elliott was plying his magic over the charcoal. My 10 year old son was very happy with the mixed entree even the liver, his first try of it ever. It was like eating foie gras. Steaks were selected Porterhouse and Fillet were soon in front of us and perfectly cooked. Melt in the mouth. We enjoyed a bottle of Margaret Rivers finest Leeuwin Estate Art Series Shiraz. Terrific wine and paired beautifully with our meat. Dessert was not needed but pancakes with Strawberries were also demolished. Great food, excellent service and a must try!

Nothing much has changed here except I think the quality of the steaks has changed, not for the better. Vlados mustard still the best way too much food but unfortunately average at best for value. Around $300 with a reasonable bottle of wine is just far too expensive for what you get. Nice evening but will try somewhere different next time

Had the most amazing dinner this evening with my family ar this restaurant. Two of us had fillet and one wagyu so we could experience it. Oh…. My…. Gosh the Wagyu steak was amazing it melted in your mouth, the fillet was great too! The Wagyu in particular was the tastiest steak we’ve ever had and we have eaten steak in South Africa and Argentina. The service was top class, loved the fresh salad and how easy it was to order, you have to go and experience this… you will love it if you are a lover of great steak. Overall well worth the price.

Vlado's is one of the best-known restaurants in Melbourne; Vlado's is famous for expertly cooked steak. The steak is cooked perfect according to the temperature you want and the tenderness you desire. The waitstaff are experts and the cooks are masters. We have never forgotten our visit to Vlado's; the restaurant is in Bridge Rd, Richmond. Vlado's is in Melbourne's inner city.

Vlado's hasn't changed in decades - six decades, in fact - and that's just brilliant. The set menu is the best and it starts with a beef and pork sausage, followed by an entrée plate with a slice of fillet steak and liver. My partner had an aversion to offal and would never try anything at other restaurants but I recommended she try a sliver of the grilled liver ... and voila, one convert! Because it was rapidly char-grilled and not cooked into shoe-leather. The main courses of fillet steak were excellent -mine medium rare and hers well done - with Vlado's own mustard and side serves of salad and coleslaw - the latter being possibly vegan or even organic. The dessert of strawberry pancakes and cream were almost vegan apart from the cream. The wine list is extensive and for the set menu at $115 per person, the night out is a bit of a splash, but very worthwhile - for meat eaters.

If you love beef then this is a must visit. We loved the set up from the get go... the unobtrusive entrance leading into an intimate, character filled room adorned with photo's of dining experiences and personalities from days gone by. An almost masculine enclave with a gentlemen's club feel, our two ladies were the only ones in the room but there was no feeling of intimidation there (noting both are strong, fierce, intelligent women and typically in charge :-). Decision making was essentially and blissfully taken out of our hands with almost surly but confident attentive service from staff that knew exactly what they did and what you wanted or needed. Endlessly replenished simple and deliciously fresh salads, breads and condiments were already on the table - a hint of the hero to come. Choosing the cut of beef and how well it was to be cooked was the only challenge. And cooked to perfection it was along with a variation of beef treatments as starters. We couldn't finish our food and clearly that was common as containers were dropped on the table at the end of the main courses in an almost expectant off-hand way in anticipation of the request for them. I loved the confidence that this restaurant's hospitality imbued - almost an arrogance but in a good way. It reminded me of Frank... "I did it my way".

I went back to Vlados after 10 years and nothing had changed. That's good. I took 4 friends with me and all were surprised and delighted at the venue and the food. Dont eat lunch if you go for dinner!!!

Great quality meat, cooked on charcoal. Genuine old school Russian family owned and run steakhouse. There are very few of these types of businesses left in the world today. Largely untouched in 50 plus years (and we were thankful for that). You get exactly what you pay for, no frills or gimmicks, and what you get is an absolutely top quality steak lovers experience. Will be back!

Such a great simple concept. Come here if you appreciate a high quality steak without the pomp of a fine dining restaurant. This family owned business is welcoming, consistent and great value for the level of food they produce.

It was hard to know where i was in the world once i stepped into this time warp. Some on my table suggested an eastern block country. I was thinking old Italy. Others thought ancient Greece. A bit of warning when we booked and when we sat down that this was a set menu would have been good. We had no idea. Had a sausage sitting on our plates before literally before we got comfy. We just wanted a quick meal as none of us are huge eaters let alone meat eaters. We thought the sausage and salad was just a general appetiser before the menu came out. No- that is course number 1. Lighting was bright so they turned it off in our corner. Its daggy but for some i suppose thats its appeal, but not at $105 a pop!. We only shared 2 desserts between 5 but pretty sure we were charged the full amount. Steaks were fine but overpriced for what you get all up. An 80s salad and a steak basically. I suppose the thing i am most disappointed about is the lack of explanation at first that this was a set menu as we just picked it quickly off trip advisor . Then we could have looked at our budgets and made a decision based on that knowledge. A little too much ' NO SOUP FOR YOU' in its attitude too.

The food is very good, it's a set menu so all you can select is the cut of steak. Of all the items served, I enjoyed the sausage appetizer the most, though the mixed platter after that came very close. The homemade coleslaw, horseradish and mustard are very good. One other table asked about other sauces, which were not available, and I think settled on tomato ketchup ... I sensed the server having a split second shock but obligingly provided it. The steak is good enough with just salt and pepper, though I varied between bites with horseradish and mustard. The dessert (strawberry crepe) was a bit disappointing, but truth be told I was quite full and that may have affected how much I enjoyed it.

It had been a long time since I had been, in fact not since the great man himself passed. I was home alone and managed to walk in without a booking. Its like a time warp. Nothing has changed. Bread great, sausage to start tasty, plate of mixed meats ( lose the liver) and a great porterhouse washed down with house red. All very hood with attentive service. Only thing I would change is the watery/ bland mustards. Price still reasonable ($105 fixed). I will return with others.

Love a good steak, sadly this was not the place despite its reputation steeped in tradition. No ambience, lighting needs dimming. Service, very clinical, attitude was; this is what we do and have been doing for 65 years so ......... The whole meal lacked true flavors.
