Intrigued by high rating and positive reviews, had an enjoyable evening but nothing stood out. Wine list was reasonable but expected more French wine given the "vibe". Wine list had minimal descriptions and no obvious theme to the collection. Food was ok, the saucing was...easily the best part of the meals, my fish was overcooked, the lamb undercooked. Wood have expected some complimentary baguette, it is the first thing you are supplied with in any French eatery. It was ok but we have no plans to return.More

There were five of us who dined here on a Thursday night. Good ambience and reasonable menu with tasters of oysters and bread, then a choice between five entrees, five mains, three sides and five desserts. Between us we managed to cover the range of...entrees including the gnocchi with mushrooms, garlic and thyme butter, the Black Trevally poisson cru with raspberry and preserved lemon, the Black Angus Steak tartare with pommes frites, the prawn tortellini with a chili prawn and tomato bisque and the garlic snails with duck fat potato. All were enjoyed to varying degrees although I appeared to have selected the winner as my steak tartare was very tasty. As mains two had the seared barramundi with French beans and mussel vol au vent whilst the others had the Black Angus scotch fillet with French fries. On the advice of our waitress, who said the sides were fairly small, we ordered two of the roast pumpkin with parmesan and pepitas (very tasty) and two of the heirloom tomato and avocado salads. The was one each far too many. We shared a caramelised pineapple souffle with coconut ice cream and a vanilla creme brulee with rhubarb sorbet as desserts. Service was friendly and attentive apart from the misguidance with the sides. Wine list was reasonably extensive and there was a good list of cocktails and mocktails. Overall good. No misses but nothing that really stood out sufficiently for us to travel to Richmond from the City for a return visit.More

We enjoyed the tasting menu & what a superb selection of dishes all designed & presented with your taste buds & eyes in mind. And seriously great value, no one will be hungry at the end! There were 4 of us & we all exclaimed...after each dish was consumed ‘wow’! Thank you so much for the creativity & care employed to deliver up such beautiful food (our guests from Noosa said it was the best food they’ve had in ages)More

We had family celebration dinner at this restaurant. Service was very good. For entree we took all dishes , including steak tartare, chicken liver parfait, eel veloute and shared it. All entrees were delicious , but liver and cauliflower were exceptionally tasty. For main our...family ordered also all range of menu. Everything was very tasty and well prepared. Same was with desert. We had all of them. Can’t complain about any of them.More

Lovely food, I haven’t been to a French restaurant for a long time and after dining at Noir I’m wondering why. The food (and selection) was excellent. I’m from Sydney but visit Melbourne as often as I can. Absolutely spoilt for choice especially in the...Richmond area. Even though there are SO many choices I will definitely visit Noir again on my next visit to Melbourne.More

Since restaurants reopened in Melbourne I’ve been lucky to dine here twice. This week there were five of us and everyone’s meals were fabulous. I totally loved the prawn tortellini with shellfish bisque for entree while others really enjoyed the beef tartare, oysters and calamari....Mains were equally delicious and all meals looked enticing and inviting particularly the scallops with squid ink risotto (2 people enjoyed this a lot). The wine is a little pricey, the service is ok but there’s a nice ambiance to this place.More

We have been to Noir a number of times over the years and it has been a long-time favourite. I have reviewed it twice and given it a five-star rating both times. Times are changing and it would appear that so is Noir. Last's meal...was not as good as usual. My $42 entrecote Black Angus steak, with French fries and four lettuce leaves, was thin, gristly, and burnt around the edges. Ideally, about an inch thick, this was about half an inch. I didn't finish it. The trout was also disappointing. By contrast, my entrée the duck liver pâté was very good, as was the asparagus. The service was ok but a step down from the good-humoured, well-informed and sophisticated standard of the past. I drank the Crittenden Chardonnay again. And it reminded me that the range of wines by the glass at Noir is really not that great. The restaurant trade is emerging from a long lockdown and getting back to peak form will be difficult. I am not certain I would risk another meal like last night.More

This is an excellent modern French restaurant where the service is professional and pleasant and the food is outstanding. Just loved an entree of muscles served in the shell with a dusting of crisp parmesan bread crumb followed by a main meal of prawn linguine....The pasta tasted like it had been made five minutes before it was served; it was sensational. This may have been my first visit but it won’t be my last. Thank you Noir for an amazing Sunday lunch.More

We have been coming to Noir for over a decade and it has been one of the consistently high-quality restaurants in Richmond. Last night, I had the Rosemary Panisse, Comtte custard, with leeks, mushrooms and walnuts, which is one of my favourites. Di had the...Charred Broccolini with garlic and almonds as an entree. For my main, I had the Seared Black Angus Scotch Fillet and Di had the Caramelised Atlantic scallops with squid ink cuttlefish risotto. Both these dishes were immensely enjoyable. I had a glass of the Crittenden Chardonnay, probably not as good as the bloke up the hill at Main Ridge or over the hill at Moorooduc Estate but pleasant enough. We had a bottle of shiraz from the organic producer Tallurian, their 2016 Block 3 SR (for Short Row). It was a beautiful wine, lighter in style than usual for this area but smooth and beautifully balanced. It's coming to a restaurant like Noir that makes me realise how badly served we are by the second and third rate pubs especially in Fitzroy that we have been going to recently. The food at Noir is only marginally more expensive but the quality, cooking and presentation are immeasurably superior and the service is far better. And it's round the corner. If you're thinking of eating in Richmond and you normally spend around $100 on a meal, then you should consider Noir.More

We were there for a special occasion because Noir has always been excellent. The food is superb. We have the barramundi and the eye fillet. The medium-rare steak Black Angus was cooked to perfection. Went here with my partner for my birthday on a busy Friday night and it was a big mistake. We had booked for the 2nd sitting at 8.15 and we arrived 30 minutes early in case our table was ready. We noticed a table for 2...in the window that was empy and clean but the manager said no, our table wasnt ready. So we had to wander up and down Swan St until the correct time. Then we were directed to the very table that we noticed as empty 30 mins earlier! The noise in the restaurant was deafening, not the intimate, romantic venue we had imagined. Our table was next to a table for about 10 women, who were screeching and shouting the whole night. The service was very ordinary, particularly since I had indicated in booking that it was my birthday. The food was excellent, however the other negatives meant that we couldn't wait to get out of the place. Wouldn't go there again.More
