I recently organised the Chef's Box (Seafood) as a birthday treat for my son. I've had a couple of these Chef's Boxes before, which have been terrific, but this was a stand-out. The lobster & prawn tortellini with a tomato reduction was absolutely wonderful; and Sicilian salad perfect as an accompaniment being so zesty and fresh. Kirsty also very kindly included some little party poppers, chocolates and a birthday candle as an extra surprise to make it special. Another thing to note is that with each of the 3 deliveries I've organised; the wait staff (who make the deliveries) have all been delightful.

We are fortunate to be locals and regularly grab a steak, the Grand chicken parma or pizza! We have also been fortunate to eat several times in the dining room and the food is always fabulous and the service is wonderful. We also ordered the Piemonte Chefs Box last weekend. Easy instructions were provided to be able to make the final preparations for dinner and so we enjoyed Vitello tonnato, beef cheeks with polenta and lemon tarts! A spectacular lockdown dinner thanks to the team at The Grand!

We recently had the Truffles Chefs' Box as a takeaway treat in this time corona virus Stage 4 restrictions in Melbourne and what a treat it was, absolutely outstanding in every respect. All courses were well prepared, well presented and totally delicious and the excellently put together preparation notes made getting the dishes ready for the table a breeze. Servings were generous, especially the main course that was enough to serve the two of us for two dinners.

This used to be a place to go and have a great meal. After things were lifted and restaurants were able to open again, one would think they'd be all over it, happy to be open again, clearly not. We booked into the Grand and on arrival were told that the dining room is now only for large parties (wish you luck there), but were assured that the Piccolo Grand had the same menu and chef. 1. The place was just about empty, so naturally we were seated right by the door where staff kept entering and there was a wintry draught even though ALL the other tables except one were empty, not exactly rocket science isn't it to seat your customer in a warm spot. 2. So we ordered, all electronic of course, no wine help. nothing, taken this virus thing to the absolute extreme, an absolute joke. 3. Had some nibblies which were quite good, then waited an hour for our main course, but only got it served after asking if they'd forgotten us. 4. Main course arrived, my kingfish was seriously overcooked and not worth eating, the potatoes were rock hard, just unforgivable. My wife had the pork belly confit, a plate of fat, just disgusting. 5. Needless to say, we got the bill and left, paid for everything even though the very nice waiter did not want to charge us. 6. One would think that "the chef/cook" would be chomping at the bit happy to be back at work after these hard times, clearly not!! After many years of coming here we will not be back, just ignore my previous review, it was all in the glorious past.

Attended the Grand Richmond for the Mother’s Day set lunch menu. Was first advised that the Calamari entree and a particular side dish wasn’t available. I ordered the kingfish entree which was fantastic. For the main I ordered the duck gnocchi along with 3 other guests. The mains at this point took about 1 hour to come out and was advised by staff that the duck gnocchi was not available. I ended up just ordering the Lasagne Ragu. After another 30 minute wait the Lasagne arrived which clearly wasn’t a ragu and was mince. The lasagne was quiet bland and nothing special at all. Others who ordered the scotch fillet were utterly disappointed due to it coming out cold. For desert I ordered the lemon tart which was nice but unfortunately the lunch was tarnished by a display of poor planning and a rushed together lunch menu. Very disappointing. I would have rated 1 star if it wasn’t for the Kingfish entree.

I organised an end of year lunch to thank some employees and sub contractors. When I enquired about making a booking, Kirsty suggested the Italian (set menu lunch) The food, service and whole day could not have been any better. Due to the temperature hitting 44 degrees we were moved from the beer garden to upstairs at the last minute. This was very much appreciated and I cannot recommend the Grand and Kirsty as a host highly enough. The communication and experience was 5 star.

We can't thank Kirsty, Liam and all the team at The Grand enough for putting on a very special wedding event for us. From the first enquiry Kirsty could not do enough to help us arrange at fairly short notice a stunning menu and location for a family wedding. The day before we were to have the event, the wedding was postponed because of lockdown, but Kirsty handled it all with ease and assured us we would be looked after when things were ready to go. On the night, with 46 family and friends we enjoyed wonderful food and wine and a stunning setting in the dining room. The service was impeccable and we all had a fantastic night. I throughly recommend The Grand for special occasions. Ann

I held a birthday celebration in one of the private dining rooms for 22 friends, the evening was perfect and just what I wanted / imagined The entire experience from the discussing / booking and confirming the menu / alcohol choices with the Function Manager Kirsty through to the event itself and the service received from Olivia on the evening was exceptional. The room was set up perfectly, the food (Italian sharing feast) was incredible and very plentiful. The overall evening was amazing with people still talking about it 3 weeks later saying what a great evening it was.

We have been going to The Grand for 20 years and have always been very happy. Today, was a big disappointment. We booked in for the $75 Mother”s Day lunch. We were booked for the last lunch sitting. On arrival, we were told that the Calamari entree and spinach salad were sold out. We were disappointed, but made alternate choices. One hour after entree had been served, we were told that the Duck gnocchi main course was no longer available due to a technical difficulty. Alternate suggestions were made. Another 30 minutes passed and our mains arrived. The steaks were cold and the lasagne was ordinary. What a shame!

We had a lovely group dinner here with a delicious set menu. The service was amazing and the staff happily catered for one of our guests who suffers allergies. We were seated outside but were under cover and with heaters so it was very comfortable despite it being a cool night. I would highly recommend this venue.

Loved the ambience and service from Liam. The foccacia bread and generous serve of olives was appreciated. Had the pork belly which was new on the menu, the skin was crispy but lacked flavor and seasoning. The spinach side was simple but divine, enjoyed it more than the main. The Etna red was smart. Overall enjoyed the experience.

We have been regulars at the Grand but due to lockdown have been unable to attend for some time. We ordered ""Another Lovely Box of Food" Chef's box for a special occasion and were really impressed. The food was fresh and delicious and only needed minimal preparation. Generous serves meant we also had left-overs for lunch. Can't wait for the restaurant to re-open so we can enjoy the whole experience again.

Milan, was the most outstanding gentleman and our waiter for the evening. Milan was discreet and calm throughout all the family festivities and speeches. He placed the food on our table with pride and quietly explained it to the nearby guests. This was our second special family event at the Grand. The upstairs private room was available early for us to add our family touches. The food was delicious especially the fluffy gnocchi and the beef. It was served family style along the tables.

The direct translation of 'yum cha' is to drink tea. It is also a traditional cantonese cuisine. Me and my partner sat down and were not offered tea but wine. False advertising? I was so excited to try this "Italian yum cha" and pictured Italian filled dim sims and steamed seafoods. Not LITERALLY small plates of Italian food. little pizzas? a SINGLE prawn for like $12?? My last and most important problem is that I am just absolutely baffled. How offensive is it to deck the restaurant out with lucky cats, chopsticks (we ate Italian food with chopsticks what on earth!!) and lanterns, yet pay completely no respect to the history and traditions of yum cha. The Grands depiction of "Italian yum cha" ladies and gentlemen; is the textbook definition of cultural appropriation. And that, is the Tea.

Last week 34 ladies, including my daughters celebrated my birthday lunch in The Grand Dining Room.Kirsty, the Venue Manager, together with her amazing professional staff ensured that all details, including layout of two long tables, the quantity and quality of food , the choice of wines and water ensured that a fantastic day was enjoyed by all present. All guests commented on the variety of food and it’s presentation- sharing plates of delicious antipasti, ( including calamari and the famous potato gnocchi with brown butter and sage,) , the chargrilled porterhouse with tender pumpkin, pan seared fish with zucchini, rocket and Parmesan salad and shoestring French fries; finishing off with a traditional Italian flourless chocolate cake with vanilla mascarpone ! Absolutely delicious lunch ! Thankyou The Grand for ensuring my day was very special!!
